Hello Jay, Lynn King Anacortes Wa. here.
I had the pleasure of bungee and hand launching my 6m DG 1000
from slopes on the Teck while in Germany this last Fall. My instructor
and flying friend was Teo Arnold.
The bungee was a double tube of heavy surgical rubber. No line
was in the set-up. It was firmly anchored to the ground slightly over
the crest of the hill. The plane end had a swivel and welded ring.
The plane has a normal aero-tow release mechanism in the nose.
HOWEVER, you DO NOT use the release to detach the bungee.
You need to make a plug / dowel that fits into the tow mechanism.
Mine is a wooden dowel with a piece of .062 (1/16") piano wire
running through it. One end has a loop, captured by the tow
mechanism, the other end extends about a half inch beyond the
nose of the plane, and bends down about half an inch. It must
bend backwards a little, perhaps 15 deg. The bungee is pulled
back to the plane. Don't try to attach the bungee and pull BOTH
back. At launch the bungee will fall off when tension relaxes.
The bungee was about 15 ft. and the pull back was about 15 ft.
Have a helper hold the plane by the intersection of the fin and
Fuselage, usually sitting on the ground. Once attached don't
expect the helper to hold for very long. Do all your checking
before attaching. Take off with wheel down, then retract.
Usually no flaps, we're looking for speed. Remember not
to climb at first, just as hand launching.

Hope this helps, Lynn
