Chuck,

As reported by Tom Kellevang on rcse and balsasailplanes yahoo group, Dan Pruss and John Neilson discussed ( I think it was 1984) holding a SOAR NATS that would be restricted to those planes that flew in the SOAR NATS.  This type of event, in my opinion,  would be a true return to flying the old woodys once again.  We would be able to fly the planes with the same modifications we made to the kits back then and fly original designs that were never kitted or published.  I observed or flew in all of the SOAR NATS and likely so did you.

As a point of interest regarding a name for the event I'm working on, I have received much support and encouragement from many of the fellas that flew in this years Wood Crafters event to call it the WOOD CRAFTERS 2004 SOAR NATS.  What ever it ends up being called, it will be a user friendly, no hassle event designed to attract those of us that enjoy building and flying woodys, both the old and new designs.  This coming event is being discussed on the balsasailplane group by fellow Wood Crafters.

regards,

Ray Hayes

The AMA is in the Nostalgia rules cycle now and fits 99% of what you want without forcing people to build a special airplane for one event a year (or is that the objective?).

Sorry to disagree but the the AMA rules do not fit 99% of my objectives. It has two defects:

1. I cannot fly my Tery IV that won a first place trophy at the 1974 SOAR Nats because the only place it was published was in the club newsletter.

2. I cannot fly the Sailaire that I built in 1978 and flew in the 1979 LSF tournament in Lockport, IL because it has had a toothed V-belt skid.
