Aren’t we about to reinvent the wheel again? I’m no aerodynamic expert but I have gone through the stage of running them all the way to the end and then reading of the aerodynamic advantages of stopping short so that’s what I’ve been doing for around the last 20 years or so.  Other than not ripping them off on the ground or the foliage so easily I understood the advantage of stopping short to be a smoother flow of air over the tip when deflected. Smoother flow equaling more efficient flight and also quieter flight on my designs at least. Maybe there is a theoretical leverage advantage to ailerons carried out to the tip with a smaller deflection needed for initiating and maintaining the bank angle but I was always led to believe it was out weighed by the extra drag created by a more turbulent flow pattern that resulted. Perhaps what’s needed is an inverse tapered platform stopping just before the tip. Dennis in NH
