I guess you missed the BASS/CASA annual club challenge this weekend. It was run using the F3b rules and format. Besides the F3b models that Tom Kiesling and I had to show them the tasks, most of the models were TD stuff, from Escapes to Majestics.
After the contest, some of the guys wanted to try a few more speed runs.
It's fun, if you want it to be fun. It would be nice if a few more clubs would try the AMA tasks T7 or T8 or the F3b speed and distance tasks. There is a lot to learn about flying by using those tasks. Match the planes in the groups, and it's fun.

Answer is simple ......F3B
Sorry Z, F3B is wonderful but its far from simple.
The trend is away from complicated, proof of that is the rise in RES popularity. Most USA fliers just want to have a get together to fly with other guys, using tasks as a format a chance to gauge the the progression of their skills. The limited (but also growing popularity) of Man on Man formats shows their is a group of pilots who want to actually have a 'contest'.
The man power/time of F3B is definitely simple...if done properly. We are extremely fortunate to have guys willing to make the effort to run 'TD' contests.
There IS interest in F3J and F3B here but its not likely you'll see it at any 'major' here in the near future...and considering none of us is getting any younger.... maybe not the not so near future.
TD for us is fun, the extreme/quirky/goofy/impossible landing challenges at the non-Nats majors add to their mystique. Don't get me wrong, I'm the first one to squeel like a stuck pig when I brain fart one of those tasks, but complaining is part of the fun! Sort of provides 'the one that got away' fodder for weeks following the events.
I wish I (and all of us) had time to fly all the F's but for now, I'm greatful for the
(fun) F-TD's.
