Hi folks, My home club is considering doing a club purchase of models to form a one- design class for the upcoming season (hard to think about that when it's -31C/- 40C windchill, but anyway). We need some suggestions regarding good ARF models, particularly ones that would be suitable for reasonably new pilots. We'd take everyone through the trimming process, do some thermal reading sessions, and aim for a club OD contest about mid summer. We're not really interested in kits, since there are only a few of us die-hards that still build.
My initial thoughts were geared towards Spirit ARFS, either RES or Elite versions. One club member brought up the good point, however, that these would teach relatively little about proper contest winch use, however. Bigger would be better, but the model should probably err towards the inexpensive side of the spectrum. Ideas? My latest thoughts are either the Art Hobby JK Thermik 2.5m (winchable? I don't know), or the NES Ruby or Jade (billed as winchable). If any mfgrs are listening, I'd be interested in whether you offer group discounts (for 5,10,15,20 models).
