Most of the aerospace machine shops I have dealt with use
100th's and 1000th's of an inch as their standard unit of measurement.
I am sure they have metric jobs too, but I have not seen one.
I've worked with both metric and US standard in the medical instrument design and manufacturing for the last 25 years. I still prefer standard over metric. My preference. Unless it gets small enough to involve angstroms. :-) Bill G.
