For photographing Soaring action, I would make #1 the shot speed. Some digital cameras have a noticable delay from when you press the button to when it takes the picture.
So when Gordy is DSing the rotor on a parked minivan- You might miss the shot where it goes through the windshield. I have an older Sony digital camera and the delay is annoying when taking picures of my boys - by the time the shutter clicks, they have run off. If you find one that is quick on the click, let me know. The boys will wonder when they grow up why I only have pictures of the back of their heads.
