Elegant? :) I guess simple is elegant ... | What is the word on a flying-wing glider (like a Zagi) VS | conventional-glider (wing, fuse, tail)? Has anyone seen or flown a | flying wing glider, past or present? Of course! The slopers love 'em. I was flying one yesterday ... They don't fly that well compared to other planes, but the low cost and extreme resiliance makes it worth it. | I've seen these big conventional-glider ships, & they seem kinda | fragile. Many are. | A flying wing seems to be more robust, more resistant to crash. You fly a 400x and you say just `seems' ? :) The gliders especially are MUCH more robsut. You can smack your standard Zagi-esque flying wing at full speed straight down into a rock, and 90% of the time no repairs will be required before you throw it out again. The strength is mostly from the foam construction. You can make a built up balsa wing, and while it'll be a little more resiliant than a built up plane with a fuselage, it won't be anywhere near as tough as a foamie. | Apparently, it can be built as a glider (no motor), or e-glider. Pretty much anything can be built as a glider or electric glider ... | What is the purpose of the double boom, connected by a | "elevator"? (does it have a control surface?) Yes, it does. (I have a similar plane.) The purpose is 1) it looks cool and 2) you can put a pusher prop back there between the booms. | I like that Gulp, could a version be set up for a glider? Of course ... Generally the flying wings just don't fly as well as the more traditional planes, and they're hard to read at 1000', and they're harder to bungee/winch launch, so they don't get quite as much thermal time. (But yes, they do thermal ok and some people love them for that.) But for sloping, they're extremely popular -- go to the local slope, and it's likely that most of the planes you see flying will be flying wings similar to your 400x, but without a motor. (Though you can certainly have a motor on a slope plane, but if the wind is good, you don't need it.) -- Doug McLaren, [EMAIL PROTECTED] "I don't know the scientific explaination, BUT FIRE MAKES IT GOOD!" --Homer Simpson RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
