Both of them are dialed in for landings and well everything else! Ben Clerx vollenteered to check out my Pike's set up and balance and while I was backing up to stretch the bungee I stepped on his Pike's wing tip :-( I told him I usually charge for that kind of custom turbulation, but he didn't see the humor... All kidding aside? Well it wouldn't be Visalia. Everything you have heard about it is TRUE. Easily the most amazing TD event in the world.
For instance, there was a garden hose bungee out, that wouldn't put up an open class ship barely enough to make a circle for landing practice...but no one told JW. He hooks up and starts backing up....and up and up and up, double the stretch that anyone had been doing, and fires the Icon way up. So while I had been using that bungee pretty much exclusively (being a glutton for punishment) I decided I'd try stretching it like he did...but I didn't, I made it back about 2/3rds of the way before I started sliding forward in the sand! My arm was wobbling and my back was killing me. He continued stretching it every launch that way, and ended up snapping the line twice and the rubber once. It's owner (Tor)first claimed it couldn't be broken, then refused to believe it could be broken again, and again. JW decided that maybe the gods were trying to tell him to quit, but he just couldn't resist shooting a dozen or so more landings. Keith McClellan is back and sporting a Sharon V tail, and Edgar is got his game honed in too. There is a bunch of amazing talent here, including one of the most consistant sticks from the NorthWest, past Visalia Champ Russ Young, sporting a new Genie. JR's got John D and another John from Horizon, both flying the contest (I think). Lots of interest in the 9303, and I saw Sherman Knight and Tom Copp talking with a JR John about programming tricks, options and variations. A lot of good is going to come out of the introduction of a pure JR sailplane radio. For those of you newbies and midi's looking for your next step up TX, stand by for a flood of second hand 8103's to hit the market..cheap. As far as sailplanes go, Icons and Pikes are well represented as are Compulsions and Extremes and quite a few Graphites. George Joy is still campaigning his xtail Escape. Arthur? Still flying giant scare the crap out of you on launch rockets! :-) 7:30 pilots meeting :-( Gordy RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
