Had a malignant melanoma carved out some years ago - think about  losing an 
8in by 12in slab from your back. It's no fun and it really gets  your 
attention. Most likely cause - sunburns (blond haired, Nordic types are  particularly 
susceptible).
 
ALWAYS wear some sun protection, even if you're flying in the middle of the  
winter. Keep 'redneck' as an attitude, not an attribute. Those wrap-around 
caps  really work. Plus some sun screen. You may think you look like a dork but 
you'll  be the smartest pilot on the field
 
This is a hobby to die for - but not literally.
