I'll second Rob's recommendation. Steve Siebenaler recommended the Guest charger to me. I have the 2606, I've found it small simple and effective. worth every penny, do a web search for price. I found the best price at an electronics store in Sacramento.

The one and only thing I'd look for to save money with a lead acid battery charger is a label on it that says "Guest". The 2606 is adequate for most folks, the 2612 will work for a faster charge rate. The charger will cost a bit more than the junk you are currently contemplating, but the savings in battery costs will more than compensate.

Remember to charge the battery as soon as possible after use, use a good charger, keep the electrolyte level right with distilled water, and keep everything clean.

I am putting together my first winch. I'll be using a Walmart standard battery to power it and need to purchase a charger. There are all kinds of lead-acid battery chargers at Walmart. Unfortunately my regular fast charger for my NiCads won't handle lead-acid, so I need to buy yet another piece of equipment! :)

Are there things I should look for when looking at the various
chargers? I think the common brand is Schumacher and there are usually
3 - 5 different models on the shelf. I was looking to spend $50 or so.

Thanks in advance!
Stuart
