I use 40mm and clam up to 65mm. I also have a long drum to help keep the
dia lower for longer. I usually use the clamshells unless the wind is
blowing fairly heavily and then I will go to the 40mm. I don't fly enough to
really have a good handle on the differences but I suspect the dia vs launch
height curve is fairly flat because I have done back to back launches with
and without the clammies and the launch height difference dosen't look that
much. Bear in mind I usually fly about once a month and attend most of the
NZ F3B series so this is not a well measured analysis.
I know Dave James who makes winches also uses 42mm and 65 I think....He has
a website and calls himself Winchnz, maybe a google will find it.
