Fun Thread....

I've flown about a bezillion models - the ones that
stick out in my mind - Not necessarily in this order:

Slope - Whip - 60" racer: this thing was super fast,
and very fun to fly. With lots of energy, seemed like
it would turn in a fuse length. I never lost a single
heat race with this model.

Slope - Maverick open class racer: I bagged one up
with the RG14/7003 Fletcher transitioning sections.
This plane was like cheating. Only time I ever went to
a slope race with an airframe advantage. SUPER fast,
tracked like it was on rails.

Slope - Eliminator: Ron Vann/Mark Allen design - blew
it up at well over 200 mph. First time I think I ever
thermalled. Wind stopped, plane kept accelerating as I
tried to land. (No flaps on this bad boy) OK - I'll
climb. Climbed up to about 2500 ft under the big dark
cloud. Made a few passes diving the whole time, blew
up straight line. That plane was neat. Maureen was
sitting in the car, sunroof open. Heard the explosion,
(it was loud) knew it was me....

Slope - Conan: A 65" bagged wing, virtually
unbreakable wing but on a Cheetah fuse. Single taper
(too much), very bad handling, very heavy, and super
fast. Learned more about energy management with this
model than any other. In the light lift at Hughes
Hill, you had to keep it moving, or you were walking.

Flat land/F3B/TD - Comet 89T: What a brick! Fast, fun
to fly, would tipstall and snaproll at the drop of a
hat. Thermalled amazingly well at 15 ounces/ft.
Outhung most of the TD toys of the day. Just don't
make a mistake.

Flat land/F3B/TD - F3Beagle: first lightweight model
of it's type. I used to carry a pound or two of
ballast so as to NOT be at a disadvantage during the
TD portion of the F3B tasks. I didn't know how to fly
light back then. (I still don't like flying light)

Flat land/F3B/TD - V-Ultra: Won 2 WC's with this
thing. They spun real neat on tow if you worked the
wing too hard. Damn V-tails! Very clean, very fast.

Flat land/F3B/TD - Laser 3MC/ Psyko/ Schpotdorker/
Fusion/ Insanity - the evolution of all these models
has been a tremendous learning experience. Each one,
another gain in performance, and ease of scoring. I
fly models less and less, yet I'm scoring better than
ever.

Flat land/F3B/TD - Warp T: it's just a bitchin
airplane. No bad habits, fast, turns on a dime.

Flat land/F3B/TD - Falcon 800: super light, used to
handlaunch this thing out at SWSA all the time. Very
easy to land.

Personally, I enjoy models that are not easy to fly,
(I get bored otherwise) and you must fly them
perfectly to extract the utmost performance out of
them. 89T/V-Ultra stand out in this category. As our
model designs evolve, they get easier to fly, and yes
they have more performance, but I get bored with these
pretty quickly.
