That`s true.
But I lost one cell in my Pike Brio Rx once and my MPX IPD DS started glitching once in a while. When I hit full break it was dangerous... So I landed with half brake and took a deep breath!
I think I was lucky that the equipment worked on only 3 cells...
But I am still using only 4 cells. Why? Because 5 cells can make many systems unstable. And a voltage regulator (to regulate to 6V) is only one more thing that can go wrong.

Receiver performance, or more accurately RX sensitivity will not change due to
voltage fluctuations, unless it in itself drops below nominal operating
voltage. Below this threshold the RX would turn off momentarily.
