I have used a dual solenoid winch for over 15 years. It was one of the last of the BAT winches. It had every available option on it at the time I bought it. The only "tricker" winch was Tom Hoopes' winch, and he designed the electrics for the BAT winches. The winch electrical setup I chose had dual solenoids w/LED lights for each solenoid. The cool part is that you could not only check to see if the solenoids were welded shut, but you could check the light to make sure it worked too!
I've said all of the above to say this: I think the kit's Cal is selling are well worth the $ and if I was going to build another winch, I'd use 2 solenoids with LED's like Cal's. I still want one. You were off by one letter ("f" not "a") on the e-mail address.
