John, And yet another option -
I use Hysol 9460 a/b epoxy glue, also sold by Loctite. Clean w/ alcohol, sand carbon rod and also the inside of the brass fitting with a needle file - clean and dry again before final assembly. I did a 'hang test' on the assembly and it held 45 pounds overnight, decided to load it to 80 pounds, my jig started to come apart - figured I had a good joint at that point.
