Aloha Mike. Yes, I saw the description on Horizon Hobby that mentions the antenna is for 72 MHz. But I've used the Smiley rubber ducky antenna (72 MHz) on a Stylus that had a 50 MHz RF module and I never had a problem with range or any other issues. I have a feeling that the JR whip antenna will work but just wanted to confirm with other Ham pilots out there.
BTW, I understand that the 50 MHz RF modules starts off as a 40 MHz module and then is tuned to 50 MHz. Maybe the JR stuff is the same way? In any case forty dollars for the antenna *doesn't include* the adapter (I think another $5.00) that you have to purchase to install the whip antenna. My Becker antenna for my Royal Evo cost me $63 shipped. This hobby is not cheap :>/. MPX frowns on using aftermarket antennas (as mentioned on the MPX yahoo group) on their equipment but I've been fortunate that the Becker has not caused any problems. I'm hoping that any ham pilots out there will post their findings regarding the use of the JR whip antenna on their six meter R/C rigs. If not, I'm willing to give it a shot. The part number is JRPA155 and the page is here: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=JRPA155 The description says "72 MHz", but that doesn't necessarily mean that they won't work on 50 MHz. After all, the stock telescoping antennas are interchangeable between 72 MHz and 50 MHz radios, so why wouldn't these base loaded antennas be interchangeable too? Right? (Maybe, maybe not.) $42.46 seems like a lot of money for one though, even if they do work okay. I hope someone else here knows the answer.
