Yeah, but how about this true story: Once on my way back up from North Africa, I was staying at bed and breakfast in suburban London. I noticed that the landlady had blocked me in with her Volvo wagon. I put down my Pelican 1490 briefcase containing a TiBook on the ground behind the Volvo, called the landlady and set about organizing some stuff in the back of my truck. She came out a few minutes later, by which time I had forgotten about the briefcase. As she backed up, I noticed that she was having trouble backing up, as if there was a rock or something hindering her progress. To my horror, I saw the Volvo hop up over the obstacle, then spit it from under the wheel. The Pelican case shot across the gravel parking lot. I anxiously opened up the case, and the Powerbook was still there, in one piece, completely undamaged, the glowing white LED still pulsing softly. That case paid for itself 25 times over that day.
A few years ago, we were passing through Heathrow airport, switching planes. We disembarked the plane, and boarded a bus to the terminal. From a terminal window, we could see our plane, just as a baggage train carrying our luggage started speeding away. The baggage train did a sharp turn just as it passed by the window we were looking out of and, at the apex, one of our Pelican cases filled with camera equipment shot off the train, hit the ground and slid across the tarmac. Once again, a Pelican case had saved me thousands of dollars.
As much as we work out of the back of our cars and trucks when flying, I'm just waiting for the day when I forget one of my TX cases and back over it with my truck. One of these days, I'll get around to fitting my TX in a Pelican case...

$67.50 is HARDLY more than $100. Plus to call a Pelican case a "plastic case" is like calling a Ferrari a "car".
I have a $2,300 TX, so the $67 doesn't really seem like TOO much to protect it. But if the extra $30 is TOO much, then I get it. I have a case that I can throw across the parking lot, run over and then toss it the ocean and me TX will be safe. Clearly NOT worth $67 when for $40 I can buy something that will not protect my case nearly as well. I can use that $37 t pay for repairs!!!!
What am I missing here???
You're missing the fact that most of us don't have $2300 TX's. :) Neither do most of us ever intend to throw our cases across the parking lot, run over it, then toss it in the ocean. I'm having problems seeing that scenario ever happening unintentionally either.
For my $300 TX that mainly makes trips back and forth from my car, with occasional trips to a soft grassy field, the $25 case from Lowes is perfect.
