Here's another vote for the Tilley. I actually _wore out_ my first
one--and it was replaced cheerfully under warranty. Not too bad for a
10 year old hat!
If you're in heavy wind, you can keep the front from flipping up by
snapping up one side, like the stereotypical Aussie. That'll give it
enough rigidity to hold steady in any wind. I originally got mine for
sailing, so it has been thoroughly wind-tested.
Get it a tad larger than you think you need--it should fit somewhat
loosely. You can use one of the two straps to make it fit more snugly
when the wind comes up.

I personally favor the Tilley T4, which is very comfortable, and has a
big brim that extends well over the neck for protection. It also has a
good strap to keep it on your head in windy conditions. A very durable
and well-made product from our friends in Canada!
