A little off subject, but wanted to share it anyway.
Today I took an all day cruise aboard the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft
carrier. After leaving Norfolk and were far enough out to sea we were
treated to a nice air show where we were allowed to watch from the flight
deck as aircraft landed and took off. They recovered and launched F/A-18 and
F-14 (which broke after landing and came back to port with us) from the
angle deck with cats 3 & 4 and when they were slung from the ship they went
right past us on the bow portion of the carrier. I have to say that it was
very impressive to watch and mostly FEEL the power as they passed. A F-14
even made a high speed pass close to the ship and broke the sound barrier as
it passed.
Movie Star Patrick Swayze was even on hand to enjoy the day and sign
autographs. If there are any of you out there who's wife loves him, tell
them that I meet him today. hehehe
I would like to put a thanks out to the US Navy and the Crew of the USS
Harry S. Truman for doing such a great and professional job of making it a
day I'll never forget.
A little tidbit of information to share with everyone. When the Truman was
built they did not use new anchors on her, but used the anchors off of the
USS Forestal when it was decommissioned. This was the ship that a marine
C-130 crew landed and took of from in 1963.
Thanks
Mark
