Perry left out some info about our Albuquerque Soaring Assoc. Gentle
Lady class two-meter event:

The main feature is that it is known as the 'Hiss&Boink' contest,
originated by the late Jim Simpson of the ASA.

Besides the use of the limited length club hi-start, the landing task
is a bit unique. The goal, after completing a four minute max flight,
is to land as close to, and parallel to a 'runway' centerline marked
out by a ribbon stretched out in the grass. If the landing is smooth
and parallel to the ribbon, all of the other pilots and spectators yell
'HISSSSSSS' to appreciate the smooth runway-like landing. Otherwise
they yell 'BOINK, BOINK....', again to mimic the landing sound. Boinks
are more common with light 2-m gliders (and also more fun to watch).

Unbelievably, in all the years that we have had the contest, we have
never had a single adult pilot to fly to a 'perfect' score, that is,
three four-minute maxes and three perfect 'hiss' landings. (It is
rumored that some of Jim's middle-school-aged RC glider students did
get perfect scores--but that's because they didn't know it was supposed
to be difficult!!)

A lot of fun and a real club pleaser. Give it a try.

The Albuquerque Soaring Association has a monthly contest for light
floaters that gets good attendance. The trick bit is that everyone has

to use the same club histart to launch. You can fly any RE or RES
plane you want, but everyone has to use the same 2M histart and can't
stretch it past the 50 pace marker.
We do get the occasional BD in the mix w/ the GLs, Sagitta 600,
Spirits, and Chrysalis.
Bring what you got, it's all good!
