What a weekend this past one was. One of the largest OVSS contest of the year was held at the AMA, nearly 80 entries for the two days, and conditions were absolutely the best for a "soaring" contest. Ten, twelve, and thirteen minute flights were the norm, and only one round was a ten out of twelve rounds over the weekend. Larry Ruble, who covered in a pinch for Denny Zech and did a great job, and Jerry Shape did the CD'ing. Conditions both days led to a great many burials of good pilots and scores that pilots cringe.
Rich Burnoski and Phil Giesking were the JR Servo winners for their weekend high scores for Master and Sportsman class respectively, Rich was in a cruise mode with wins both days. But good friend and great flier Jim Bacus is the new OVSS Master Class Champion for 2005. Bob Burson was our Sportsman Class winner, I would guess he has to join the big boys next year now out of public pressure. Both Jim and Bob won JR 9303 Radios for their efforts. Jim, in a great sign of the class act he, is since he is a Team JR flier, donated the radio to the LSF for next years worker raffle at the Nats. A major thanks to JR Radio, Peter Goldsmith, and John Diniz for supporting us in our endeavor here in the midwest as well as all the clubs that hold the many good contest we attend. We have such a good time at this that I cannot imagine doing anything else. And yes, we abused Daryl in abstencia. The crops are starting to come off around AMA so maybe I can finally find my Fazer now and other ships that are still there, Daryl was just lucky I guess?
