Batteries begin to degrade in performance as soon as they are born,
NiCD/NiMH included. Long term storage of both nickel-based and
lithium-based should be at no more than 40% state of charge (SoC), and
at no higher than 15C (lower is better, but not below freezing). This
minimizes age related losses of capacity.
