I was just made aware of a new ebay scam, and it goes something like this:
I’ve been looking for a nice video camera on ebay, and even bid on a few. I didn’t win any of them, but I received a ‘second chance’ offer on one. The winning bidder had 33 positives, and the next few who outbid me had anywhere from zero to three. I thought maybe the seller decided not to sell it to them or the final bidder came through with some excuse not to buy.
The second chance offer was for my maximum bid of $xxx. It all looked official with all of the proper ebay markings and warnings. There was one thing on the original second chance offer that did puzzle me; the auction number wasn’t a link. I emailed the seller and haven’t heard back from them yet, I sent ebay a request asking if this is a legit off, but haven’t heard back from them either. I get an email from the supposed seller stating ebay will contact me with the “approved second chance” offer. I received the notice from ebay that also looked official except the payment method stated ‘only Western Union” and the receiver of the payment was in Queens NY, but the auction stated the goods were in Arizona.
I have received several honest second chance offers and the best I recall, the item #’s had a direct link to the item.
Those of us that use Ebay, need to keep our eyes open. Don’t let this scam get to you! gv
