| I bought a partially built Challenger and kit remains. An older kit no doubt. I have found the quality of parts to be quite high. The fuse formers, wing ribs, stab ribs and vertical fin parts are laser cut and very accurate, with high quality wood. That's the stuff that is really important. The fuse longerons and spar caps can be all be replaced for less than $20 if your friend is concerned. This is little stuff and not critical to the kit. I'm happy to see Ray continue to make wood kits and am grateful that the kit is available. Ray is one of the few guys that are continuing to produce wood kits with laser cutting. I think your friend should be thankful the kit exists. My fuse is now nearly done, the stabs and rudder were built by others, wing to start soon. It is a "Challenge" to build, but a great building project. Send your friend to RC Groups for a thorough and long thread on building the Challenger: He'll note that Ray has taken the time to contribute many posts to help a builder through the project. I have a friend (very experienced builder) to whom I had sold a new kit and he is complaining about the overall lack of quality in the kit. Fuse longerons extremely roughly cut, spar caps grain runout, sides which are supposed to be 3/16 are 1/4 thick, no noseblock among other things. |
