I agree that ARFs have their place in our hobby, especially for those of
us that have the 8 to 5 jobs.  I have to admit that I do like the spirit
of events like Woodcrafters, if only in that it keeps the building
segment of our hobby invigorated.

That being said, it would be nice to at least recognize the builders -
maybe not seperate events or contests, but maybe a seperate award?  "Top
Fly what you Built" and a package of 30 minute epoxy as a prize?  Sort
of serious there.  Still fly and compete with the rest, just an
acknowledgment of the craftsmanship.

I guess I'm really looking for a way to encourage fliers or guests that
only see the expensive side of the hobby. It's much easier to "sell"
soaring if you can point out a $100 ship as a way to try us out; most
people I've talked to sort of zone out when you say a ship cost $1,000
bucks without servos.  It's an especially hard sell if they're standing
there with a 12 year-old son or daughter that's the one interested.  

Maybe that's part of why it's easier to get new slopers out?
