So, which one of the following is true?
(A) there will be no DD or DM as Debian GSOC student
(B) there will be no DD or DM as Debian GSOC student, unless it's the
only solution to fill all our slots (there are no other applicants).
So DD/DMs should apply if interested.
(C) there will be no DD or DM as Debian GSOC student, unless it's the
only reasonable way to fill all our slots (all the other non-DD/DM
are really not good enough). So DD/DMs should apply if interested.
(D) non-DD/DMs are prioritized, but it is still possible that DD/DMs can
become students. DD/DMs should really apply.
(E) whether someone is a DD/DM or not should not really be important
    when selecting the students.

mentors make me think that they agree with (E). I think that the
situation should really be clarified. If the project as a whole prefer
(D) or (E), then we should make sure that we get the best applicants,
and that nobody is feeling that they should not apply because they are
DD/DMs. And of course, we should make sure that the project as a whole
agrees that it's fine to pay DD/DMs to work on Debian using GSOC.

Well, I'm only talking about a poll, not a formal vote (as in, GR).
Stefano Zacchiroli developed the infrastructure (based on devotee) to
run informal polls during last debconf, so it would be quite simple to
use that.
