According to the report, which tracks venture capital activity nationwide, there were 89 deals in the quarter, the same as in Q1, but less than the 97 deals in the same quarter of last year. The region saw the most investments in Los Angeles, with $329.0M in funding, followed by San Diego, with $304.7M in investment, then Orange County, with $203.6M in funding. Los Angeles most mostly flat quarter-to-quarter in terms of dollars invested, with both Orange County and San Diego seeing slightly less funding that the prior quarter. (More...) http://bit.ly/NYunNS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Club Caveman Takes To Kickstarter To Bring App To Life ---- A mobile app new project by a local, Los Angeles team has taken to Kickstarter to help fund its efforts to create an animated, interactive caveman for your iPhone and iPad. The team -- made up of veterans from local, Silicon Beach technology companies -- said it is developing Club Caveman, a mobile app that combines movie-quality animation with all the interactivity of an iPad or iPhone. The team said that its idea it to create an app which takes advantage of all of the features of the iPad and iPhone, including voice recognition, accelerator, touch sensitivity, plus the iPad 3's Retina display. The answer has been an obscure mix of laws which were originally meant to help fund rural telecom operators, but -- according to an article over at the IEEE Spectrum -- are expected to disappear soon. Those laws have aided at least two Southern California companies, FreeConferenceCall.com, FreeConference.com, both of whom have taken advantage of those laws as the core of their business and revenue models. No details on the funding, which was first reported by Dan Primack at FORTUNE, have been released. The report said the valuation of the roudn was around $80M. MovieClips, which is headed by Zach James and Rich Raddon, has previously raised funding from Felicis Ventures, First Round Capital, MK Capital, Richmond Park Partners, Shasta Ventures, and SoftTech VC, along with a long list of angels.
