Learning The Ropes Of Internet Video With Michael Tringe and CreatorUp
----
You've got a great idea for a web video series, but how do you learn
about how to make that happen, to get distribution, and monetize that
video? Los Angeles-based CreatorUp (www.creatorup.com) wants to help
aspiring online video producers with an online web education series.
We spoke with Michael Tringe, one of the startup's co-founders, to
learn more about what the company is getting set to launch.
What is CreatorUp all about?

Michael Tringe: We are an online web series school. We teach people
how to make web series and video for the web, and specifically for
sites like YouTube, and independent networks like Flip and
Dailymotion. We teach through (More...)

Amazon Options Horror Novel
----
Amazon Studios, the Los Angeles production arm of Amazon.com, has
further expanding its content efforts, saying this week that it has
optioned a gothic horror novel called Seed. The horror novel, authored
by Ania Ahlborn, is the first to be optioned by the studio, which
previously had only optioned movie scripts and episodic series
projects. Amazon's option allows Amazon to keep the project in-house
for future movie development. Amazon said that the title has been
number one on its bestselling horror list, and was released in
mid-2011 as a self-published title. Amazon Studios has been in the
process of optioning scripts and other content for use in turning into
its own movies, to be distributed through Amazon Prime Instant Video
and other efforts.

Regulus Therapeutics Adjusts IPO Offering Terms
----
San Diego-based Regulus Therapeutics has adjusted its anticipated IPO
terms, saying in a filing this morning that it now anticipates its
initial public offering price of its stock to be $4.00 per share, and
that it will offer up 11.25M shares to the public in its IPO. The firm
had initially been targeted at offering 4.5M shares of its stock at
between $10.00 and $12.00 per share. Regulus is a developer of
microDNA-based biopharmaceuticals.

Local Corporation Claims Record Traffic
----
Irvine-based local online advertising firm Local Corporation claims
this morning that it has hit a record in total, mobile, and organic
search traffic on it sites. The company said it reached 101 million
total monthly unique visitors during the third quarter, up from 92
million monthly unique visitors in the same period a year ago. The
company said that much of the growth came from mobile and organic
traffic. The firm said the numbers came via third party tracking
services, but did not disclose the names of those providers.

Technology, Politics Makes Strange Bedfellows For NationBuilder
----
What happens when technology startups and the nation's political
machine collide? Strange results, it seems--at least for one local Los
Angeles startup, NationBuilder. A report from the Wall Street Journal
says that the firm--founded by Democrats, but which supplies it online
services to anyone--has run into issues with Democratic groups after
they found it was supplying its online software to Republican
candidates. NationBuilder's services are open to any nonprofit,
political candidate, political party, or other membership group to
help them build their community. Apparently, its deal to provide a
group helping Republicans in state level offices has drawn calls from
Democratic activists to boycott the firm's services, just because they
are providing services to candidates across the aisle. The WSJ reports
that some of the biggest firms in technology, including Google,
Facebook, and Twitter, even employ separate sales forces to call on
Republican and Democratic customers.

Tapiture Is A Pinterest For Guys
---- (
Anyone with the slightest interest in the world of social Internet
services nowadays has by now heard of Pinterest, the online site which
allows users to "pin" and comments on their favorite photos from
across the web. Pinterest is one of the latest services to sweep the
Internet world in terms of popularity, particularly with women.
However, how about similar services aimed at the male demographic? It
turns out there's (at least) one, just spun out into a new company by
a local Venice, California-based company, Resignation Media, called
Tapiture. (More...)

Ahead of Debate, USC Project Uses Twitter To Measure Political Sentiment
----
A new project out of the University of Southern California is looking
to help people visualize public sentiment towards the 2012 United
States presidential candidates, by analyzing Twitter. (More...)

Flinja Launches At DEMO
----
Flinja, the startup developing an online marketplace for freelance
college students and alumni, has launched to the wider world, after
graduating from the StartEngine startup accelerator in Los Angeles.
The firm showed off its service at the DEMO conference Wednesday,
saying that its service is now available at both USC and UCLA, and
will soon launch at Stanford. Flinja was co-founded by Victor Young,
Rebecca Bahr, and Calvin Shen, and was part of the Summer 2012 class
from Howard Marks' StartEngine effort. Flinja's site lets college
students and alumni with .edu emails sign up, and get a chance to post
services they'd like to provide; alumni of those colleges can then
contact those students to book their services.

Adigami Takes On Digital Marketing Analytics
----
Newport Beach-based Adigami, which develops digital media analytics
tools, said yesterday that it has launched a new product to help users
do cross-channel marketing analytics. The firm said the cloud-based
service helps users create reports which connect with a variety of
search engines, ad servers, bid management systems, and social media
networks. The new startup is headed by Cyrus Ghalambor. The firm said
its solution provides affordable data integration tools for digital
marketers via a universal API. Ghalambor has previously served at such
companies as ZiNQO, Adify, and Flycast and was VP of Engineering at
Webvisible, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Lindzon Gets Exit At Lifelock
----
Prolific San Diego angel investor Howard Lindzon, who runs StockTwits,
has scored a big exit at one of his portfolio companies, LifeLock,
after the firm had its IPO Wednesday morning. (More...)

Mogreet Officially Launches Mobile API Service
----
Venice-based Mogreet officially announced its new application
programming interface (API) services Wednesday morning, saying it will
provide APIs will let developers deliver MMS, SMS, video, in-app
messaging, as well as access mobile user lookup services. Mogreet's
new APIs make it much easier for application developers to send MMS
services, at a cost of only $0.01 per MMS message sent. In addition to
sending MMS messages, the APIs also include a way to transcode images,
videos, and audios in the appropriate formats for different mobile
devices. The new service, which the firm rolled out to users last
week, takes technology originally developed by Mogreet for providing
both MMS and mobile marketing campaigns for clients, as well as for
its original mobile video greeting card service, and makes it
available to third party developers.
