Curating The Web Using PublishThis, with Matt Kumin
----
If you're a web publisher, or even a brand developing your own
outreach to customers through a newsletter or microsite, how do you
efficiently gather and curate all of the news and information out
there? Right now, it's a manual process--unless you're using the tools
from Los Angeles-based PublishThis (www.publishthis.com). The firm has
created a tool which uses software and semantic search to help in the
whole process of curating content. We spoke with Matt Kumin, the
company's founder and CEO--who was formerly an executive at
Edmunds.com--to learn about the company's products.

What's your background, and what is PublishThis all about?

Matt Kumin: I've been working in digital and Internet in LA since
1995, and have been doing this for a number of years. Prior to

Artisan Park Launches Marketplace For Art, Handcrafts
----
A new, Los Angeles startup, Artisan Park, is hoping to help connect
artists with customers, by launching an online, name-your-own-price
marketplace for art and handcrafted wares. The firm, whose team
includes a former SharesPost executive, lets users bid on items posted
by artists and artisans, who set a minimum price on their items. The
service said that it automatically matches up offers on items and
completes a transaction for artists if they meet that minimum price.
The firm's founders include Adam Corey, who headed up marketing at
SharesPost, and who also was involved in the Brighthouse incubator run
by Greg Brogger and Scott Painter. According to Corey, the firm is
looking to be more exclusive than competing sites like Etsy, offering
up curated artists, and helping people find art and artists you
otherwise wouldn't find.

Qualcomm Takes On Indoor Positioning Accuracy
----
San Diego-based Qualcomm said it is taking on the capability of
providing precise, indoor positioning with the release of a new
platform. The firm said its Qualcomm IZat location platform, being
developed by its subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, provides precise
location for mobile phones, tablets, and network infrastructure, to
within 3 to 5 meters inside buildlings. The company said that is up to
10 times greater accuracy than existing solutions. As part of the
release of the new platform, Qualcomm also said it is working with
Cisco on the indoor location technology, with ties into Cisco's
enterprise wireless products.

Broadcom Releases Bluetooth Software Into Open Source
----
Irvine-based Broadcom said it is contributing its Bluetooth software
stack into an open source, Android project. According to Broadcom, the
software will be included in Android 4.2. Broadcom's Android software
stack helps developers create new applications using the Bluetooth
wireless standard; the firm said it hopes the contribution will open
up development of new Bluetooth applications such as heart rate
monitors, 3D glasses, remote controls and sensors.

MeFeedia Debuts New Mobile Discovery Features
----
Burbank-based Beachfront Media, which operates the online video
discovery site MeFeedia, said it has added a number of new discovery
features to its mobile website and apps. The firm said its updated
software allows consumers to discovery videos from its video feeds,
with new features such as channel and channel browsing, sharing
features, and more. The new apps run on iPhone and Android. Beachfront

its follow-on public offering at $28.00 per share. The firm is
offering up 14,000,000 shares of its common stock, with most of those
shares being sold by its existing, venture capital backers. ServiceNow
went public on the NYSE as NOW back in June.

Urban Remedy Raises $1M From Science Inc.
----
Urban Remedy, a new startup focused on delivering healthy juices,
meal replacements, and snacks to consumers, has raised $1M in a
funding round, the firm said today. The startup said the funding came
from Santa Monica-based Science Inc., the technology studio run by
former MySpace CEO Michael Jones, and also includes a number of angel
investors from the beverage industry. Urban Remedy was founded by Neka

BMW Targets Instagrammers With LA Auto Show Contest
----
In an example of the rising interest of big advertisers in mobile
social sharing site Instagram, auto maker BMW is dangling the chance
to be the official BMW Instagram photographer to Instagram users who
snap and post photos of local BMWs. The company told users this week
on Instagram that they can submit pictures of BMWs--making sure they
are geotagged and hashtagged as #BMWUltragramer--to get a chance to
get access during the LA Auto Show's Press Day. Instagram--which is
now owned by Facebook--lets users share photos with their friends and
others using their mobile phone. BMW said the contest is open to only
residents of Los Angeles and Orange County, and that the deadline for
entries is Sunday, November 18th. Instagram has been a popular theme
for SoCal startups in the last years, with such companies as
Insteegram letting users sell T-shirts from their photos; MomentFeed
letting retailers track activity on the service and other social
media; Instaprints offering up canvas and metal prints from Instagram
photos, and Instacanvas letting users sell their photos to others or
buy photos posted on Instagram.

TheBouqs Looks To Upset Flower Delivery
----
A new, Los Angeles startup, TheBouqs.com, headed by a former
ShoeDazzle executive, has just launched, hoping to upset the often
confusing (and expensive) online flower delivery market. The startup
has launched a service which delivers flowers for a flat, $40,
including shipping, with options for subscriptions and scheduled
delivery. The service is the brainchild of John Tabis, who formerly
was VP of Brand, Strategy, and Corporate Development at ShoeDazzle,
and also served at The Walt Disney Company, Bain, and other companies.
The company said it was created as a response to other companies that
"suck you in" with $19.99 ads, but who pad out that price with
shipping, misc charges, upsells so that those flowers really cost
$94.50.

olloclip Adds iPhone 5 Version
----
Huntington Beach-based olloclip, the developer of the snazzy camera
lens for the iPhone, said it is supporting the new Apple iPhone 5, and
is taking pre-orders for the new accessory. olloclip's device allows
iPhone users to take unique pictures with a fisheye, wide-angle, and
macro combination lens. The firm's lenses first debuted on the iPhone
4S/4, and were unique in that they first came to market via a
crowdfunding project on Kickstarter.

Base79 Gets Funding From The Chernin Group
----

investment group founded by Peter Chernin, has made an investment in
European online video company Base79. According to Base79, the
