----
In our Insights and Opinions section, we regularly feature useful
advice, opinions, and more from the local community. For this year's
first article, we share the advice of Tony Karrer, Founder and CTO of
TechEmpower, Founder and CTO of Aggregage and organizer of the LA CTO
Forum and Startup Specialist Network, two local groups focused on
startups.

advisor.

Then I got an email that asked: (More..)

(founder and CEO of Wittlebee), has cooked up Angel5. Angel5 helps
startups and others sort through who are the top angel investors,
filtered by everything from region, to type of companies, to what
accelerators those angels might be affiliated with. The new service
directly connects users into AngelList.

January 12, Pasadena -- Serious Games for Simulation, Education and the

its wings far beyond familiar "teenage" video games: it now embraces a
variety of new and important applications. Evolving from pre-computer
roots (e.g., "war games" for critical military exercises), today key
computer simulations and training (variously dubbed "games") increasingly
permeate the government world. Likewise, a wide variety of tasks, from
corporate training to childhood education, have been variously recast in a
"game" context with dimensions and purposes quite beyond simple "fun and
entertainment." Today’s program looks at the entrepreneurial / innovation
context of the what-why-how of "serious games" in important social and
commercial endeavors, exploring various facets such as applications,
platforms, areas for growth, investment landscape, and how it all meshes
with the undeniable lure of playing gamesNEW . See

In this class, Alan will share all of the good (and terrible) experiences
of opening his creative cooperative, One Long House, in an attempt to
encourage creative growth and prevent redundant mistakes. Students will
not only learn of the decisions and problems that come with starting a
small creative agency, but their potential solutions as well.. See
