Illumina Ordered To Pay $96M In Patent Suit ---- San Diego-based life sciences equipment maker Illumina has been ordered to pay $96M to Syntrix Biosystems, in a patent litigation suite, the company said Thursday. Illumina said a federal jury in Tacoma, Washington found that its BeadChip array product infringed on a patent asserted by Syntrix Biosystems. Illumina said the firm plans to appeal the finding and strongly disagrees with the verdict, and says that it believes Syntrix's claim are without merit. Vitesse Adds To Board ---- Camarillo-based networking chip maker Vitesse Semiconductor said Thursday that it has added two directors to its board. According to the firm, Matthew Frey and Kenneth H. Traub have joined its board, bringing its total members to seven. Frey is CEO of Optimum Energy, a developer of software-as-a-service for energy management. Traub is President and CEO of Ethos Management, a advisory firm which Vitesse says helps advise undervalued companies "build and unlock stockholder value". Hulu To Tap Forssell As Acting CEO ---- Los Angeles-based Hulu reported Thursday afternoon that it will appoint Andy Forssell as acting CEO of the company, when current CEO Jason Kilar leaves at the end of the month. According to Kilar, Forssell helped grow the company from 2 content partners and no revenue to over 450 content partners and approximately $700 million revenue in 2012. Kilar also said that Disney and News Corporation are still working on "forward-looking plans" with the site. Cooking.com Sold To Target Corp. ---- Marina Del Rey-based Cooking.com, the online retailer of cookware, kitchen products, and more, has been acquired by Target, Target announced Thursday. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Cooking.com has been looking for a buyer since October of last year. In addition to its own website, Cooking.com operated online stores for the Food Network, Rachael Ray, Paula Deen, Pillsbury, and others. Picfari Takes On Travel Photo Opps ---- Picfari, another, new mobile travel photo application debuted today, saying that it is looking to help travelers find the best places to take photos at popular travel destinations.
