How RxVantage's IT Software Aims To Automate A $20B Market
----
Pharmaceutical companies spent $20 billion a year marketing their
products to medical offices. However, the whole business of those
companies working with medical offices is one sorely in need of
technology. RxVantage (www.rxvantage.com), based in Los Angeles, is
looking to tackle that huge market with its medical scheduling
software for pharmaceutical and medical sales reps and medical
offices, and is venture backed by Slater Technology Fund and Javelin

SOA Software Launches New Product
----
Los Angeles-based enterprise software developer SOA Software has
rolled out a new product this morning, focused on management of
application programming interfaces (APIs). The company said it snew
product, LIfecycle Manager for APIs, helps enterprises manage the
development use of APIs, services, and software assets. According to
the firm, the new software helps planning, designing, developing,
operating, maintaining and retiring enterprise APIs. Cost of the new
product was not announced.

ServiceNow Wins University Customer
----
San Diego-based ServiceNow announced today that it has signed on
Bournemouth University as a customer. Bournemouth University is based
in England, and has more than 18,000 students. According to
ServiceNow, the university is using its software-as-a-service for
helping to consolidate multiple IT systems, and provide IT self
service to faculty, staff, and students. Financial details of the win
were not announced. ServiceNow's enterprise IT automation software is
used for managing IT incidents, change management, configuration,
knowledge base, and other IT services.

DriveCam Names Technology Vet As New CFO
----
San Diego-based DriveCam, the firm which develops hardware and
services to help monitor fleet driving, said today that it has named
Paul J. Pucino as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer. Pucino is a veteran CFO at technology companies in Southern
California, and has previously served as EVO and CFO of THQ, EVP and
CFO of Classmates Media Corporation (part of United Online), in
addition to serving as Digital Insight, Galileo International,
Tekelec, and Dean Witter, Discovery & Co. Pucino replaces William
Ruff, who has become SVP, Finance. DriveCam's systems use video and
sensors to help track fleet driver performance and safety.

Cool Planet Raises $29.9M More On Way To $100M Round
----
Camarillo-based Cool Planet Energy Systems said Friday that it has
raised $29.9M in funding, part of an ongoing, $100M Series D financing
round. According to Cool Planet, the funds will go towards the
construction of its first, commercial production facility. Cool Planet
Biosystems is developing biofueld technology, which is being applied
to the renewable fuels industry. The company says it process actually
removes carbon from the atmosphere, by producing biochar for use in
the agriculture industry. Cool Planet is backed by General Electric,
Google Ventures, BP, ConocoPhillips, NRG and the Constellation Energy
division of Exelon.

Hack4LA, the recent hackathon which pitted Los Angeles developers,
students, and residents to come up with ideas an apps to tap into open

Amazon Studios Lures In Writers, Filmmakers With Storyboarding Tool

Amazon Studios, Amazon.com's Los Angeles-based content production and
development studios, is hoping to lure in more content creators to its
efforts, through the release of a new storyboarding tool--Amazon

Report: Snapchat Raising $100M
----
Venice-based photo messaging service Snapchat is reportedly raising
$100M in funding, at a valuation of half a billion dollars, according
to a report Friday. Snapchat--which operates a mobile photo messaging
service which is very popular with the teenage set--is backed by
Benchmark Capital, and had previously raised $12.5M in its Series A,
earlier this year. Southern California has been quite the hotbed of
suddenly fashionable, mobile companies -- the most recent having been
Viddy, which raised a funding at huge valuations last year, only to
recap the firm and return funds after failing to live up to its
valuation and expectations.

weMonitor Takes $5.3M For Energy Monitoring Services
----
San Diego-based weMonitor, a new startup targeting the home energy
efficiency market, said last week that it has raised $5.3M in a
funding round, from Dominion Investment Group. The company said it
will use the funding to expand its technical and marketing team, plus
release its first products in Q4. weMonitor is headed by Dean
McDaniel, and says that it will help users track their consumption
habits and provide energy efficiency tips, and also help connect users
with technicians to help improve a home's energy use. The firm also
appears to have a franchise angle to its business, and is looking for
franchisees for the service in different territories.

ParkMe Powers Audi, INRIX
----
Santa Monica-based ParkMe, the developer of parking information apps
and databases, has further extended its reach last week, saying that
it has inked a deal to supply its information to Audi and traffic
information provider Inrix. According to ParkMe, Audi and INRIX have
added new, real-time parking information to their navigation systems,
by pulling in live, parking data from ParkMe. Financial details of the
link were not disclosed. The new system lets drivers automatically
navigate to the cheapest and closest parking spots near their
destination. ParkMe says it now has data for over 18,000 parking
facilities in North America.

DogVacay Ties With Cesar Millan On Giveaway

UberMedia Names Chief Revenue Officer
----
Pasadena-baesd UberMedia, the Idealab-backed developer of mobile
Twitter applications and mobile advertising technology, said Friday
that it has named  Michael Hayes as its new Chief Revenue and
Marketing Officer. Hayes is an online advertising vet, having most
recently been at agency Initiative. UberMedia said Hayes was managing
accounts with Hyundai-Kia, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and MillerCoors.
UberMedia is headed by Bill Gross, the founder of Idealab. UberMedia
recently refocused its efforts to focus on providing mobile
advertising technology.
