One of the accelerators to emerge out of that boom a few years ago was MuckerLab (www.muckerlab.com), headed by Erik Rannala. Chideo operates a service which helps celebrities raise money for their causes, by letting fans chip in to get their favorite celebrities to film one-of-a-kind, fan-driven video clips. Chideo also said today that it has added a long list of new celebrities to the site, including Halle Berry, Morgan Freeman, chefs Mario Batali and Ming Tsai, Boyz II Men, Brett Hull, and many others to the list of celebrities filming videos on the service. Los Angeles-based Common said today that it has launched a new, online, curated marketplace aimed at showcasing products that help the "common good" and help improve the "good of the planet". The startup, led by Dan Burrier, said it is creating a collaborative, online community specifically aimed at showcasing planet-conscious products. The site lists everything from recycled toilet paper to chocolate, clothing to toothbrushes. The company said its founders are Alex Bogusky, Ana Bogusky, Rob Schuham and John Bielenberg. http://www.socaltech.com/common_looks_to_curate_socially_progressive_goods/s-0053603.html SOA Software: Profitable, Double Digit Growth ---- Los Angeles-based SOA Software, the developer of software used by companies to manage the interface between their various enterprise software packages and APIs, said today that it had a profitable 2013 and double digit revenue growth. The privately held company, however, did not disclose any details on those profits or revenues. SOA Software is led by Paul Gigg. The company said in 2013 that it had revenue growth of 52% in 2012. The last time the company actually discussed revenue numbers was back in 2005, when it had around $29.9M in revenues. Fisker Automotive Goes To Wanxiang In Bankruptcy ---- Bankrupt electric automotive firm Fisker Automotive has been sold to Chinese auto parts company Wanxiang Group, after a bankruptcy auction on Friday, according to the companies. The deal was worth $149.2M. Irvine-based Fisker Automotive has been in the midst of bankruptcy proceedings since last year. According to Reuters, the deal is expected to be presented in bankruptcy court Tuesday for approval. Fisker had raised over $1.7 billion to bring its cars to market. Permira Completes $200M LegalZoom Buy ---- The deal by private equity firm Permira to acquire the majority stake in Glendale-based egalZoom is now complete, according to Permira. Essner was previously the founder of AccessDNA, which he sold to Informed Medical Decisions a couple of years ago. He also was the COO of WeddingChannel.com, and has been an advisor to PageWoo, FanAppz and Capsule, and also was EIR at Idealab. Jukin Media says it acquired rights to viral Internet content, and licenses that content to major TV networks, digital publishers, and others. Rustic Canyon Backs UrbanSitter In New Funding ---- Los Angeles-based venture capital investor Rustic Canyon Partners is one of the return backers of online babysitting marketplace UrbanSitter, participating in UrbanSitter's new $15M Series B funding. UrbanSitter said the new funding round was led by DBL Investors, and also included Match Group, Aspect Ventures, Canaan Partners, First Round Capital, Menlo Ventures, in addition to Rustic Canyon Partners. Rustic Canyon was one of the first investors in UrbanSitter back in 2012.
