How PolarPro's Photo Filters Are Riding The GoPro Wave

Anyone who is into action sports know that GoPro has absolutely
changed how the market since its debut, where it's more odd to see
action sports athletes not using a GoPro than using one. As part of
that, a healthy market for accessories for the camera has developed,
including for the photo filters from Newport Beach-based PolarPro
(www.polarprofilters.com), which makes special photographic filters
specifically to fit the GoPro. We caught up with Jeff Overall, the
founder of PolarPro, to better understand the company--plus the
popularity of accessories specifically for GoPro cameras.

What's the story behind the company?

Yacha Aims At Mobile Messaging

A new, Los Angeles startup, Yacha, said this week that it has launched
a new, mobile app to send multimedia messages. The company said that,
unlike other mobile messaging apps, users can send any combination of
photos, text, audio, drawings, or video in a single message.

D-Link Ships Wi-Fi Motion Sensor

Kareo Targets Veterans Care
----
Irvine-based Kareo, the developer of cloud-based medical office
software led by Dan Rodrigues, said it is looking to help small
medical practices serve veterans, as part of the new VA Accelerating
Access to Care effort. Kareo said it will be helping medical practices
participate in existing and future Veterans Affairs program, by making
it easier for practices to sign up for the VA's electronic claims
processing system. Kareo said it would be assisting medical practices
with a new guide, checklist, and other assistance services in the
effort.

Novatel Wireless Selected By Remote Tracking Provider
----
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless, which develops wireless modules and
related products for connecting devices to wireless data networks,
said it has been selected by telemetry and remote tracking provider
Premier Wireless Solutions. Size and impact of the win was not
disclosed. Novatel said that PWS is using the company's SA 2100, M2M
device, which is designed for use in telemetry applications.

Los Angeles County Moving To Microsoft Office 365
----
The County of Los Angeles is in a big information technology deal, and
will be moving about 100,000 of its employees to Microsoft Office 365,

Vadio Partners With Vevo
----
Vadio, the Amplify.LA startup which provides technology for online
video players for media companies, said Wednesday that it has
partnered with Vevo, to bring Vevo's large catalog of music videos,

Jukin Media Adds To Executive Team
----
Los Angeles-based viral video entertainment network Jukin Media is
continuing to build out its executive team, saying today that it has
named Jerry Boonstra as its new Chief Technology Officer, and Theresa
Tran as its new Head of Product. The company--which was founded by
Jonathan Skogmo--said that Boonstra was most recently at Frequency,
and also served at CNET. Tran has been at Viacom and Fourth Wall
Studios. The company said that both will work on its licensing
platform, which the company uses to streamline and automate the
licensing process for trending content. Jukin Media works to help
license viral video content, which it publishes both on its own
YouTube channels as well as licenses to news outlets, TV morning
shows, clip shows, and others.

Black Lotus Expands DDoS Resources In Virginia, Amsterdam
----
Los Angeles- and San Francisco-based Black Lotus Communications, which
offers up distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) mitigation services to
SMB and enterprise clients, said this week that it has opened up two
new centers in Ashburn, Virginia, and Amsterdam, Netherlands.

TechShop Plans Expansion Of Maker Space To Los Angeles
----
TechShop, a nationwide operator of membership-driven "Maker"
facilities, said Wednesday that it is planning an expansion into Los
Angeles, to offer up fabrication, 3D printing, and other tools and
training to the local community. TechShop announced the initiative as
part of the "Maker Faire" being held at the White House today, which
is being hosted by President Obama. TechShop--which already runs
spaces across the Bay Area, Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania, Arizona,
and Virginia--also said it will be opening up a new location in St.
Louis. The maker space operator did not say exactly where in Los
Angeles it will open up operations, but said it is working with
universities, academic institutions, companies, corporations, local
government and individuals in the city on the effort.
