Shiphawk: Shipping Everything, Including Your Army Tank
----

If you want to ship something large--say, an old vintage military
tank--where do you go? Santa Barbara-based ShipHawk (www.shiphawk.com)
is looking to solve the problem of pretty much shipping anything large
(like cars and furniture) or unique, with its online shipping
service--think "Kayak" for shipping. We spoke with co-founder Aaron
Freeman to learn more about ShipHawk's services and what it does--and
how the company actually has been helping people ship military tanks
via its service.

FlikMedia Goes Public Via Reverse Merger
----
Santa Monica-based mobile dating app developer Flikdate has gone
public, via a reverse merger into a shell company called CrossBox,
according to the firms today. According to FlikMedia, the company has
acquired Flikdate through a merger transaction, and has changed its
OTCBB trading symbol from CBXX to FLKM. The new company is led by Nick
Bicanic. Flikdate is aiming directly at dating app Tinder, offering up
both iOS and Android apps which let users "flick" through online video
speed dates. Flikdate's executives include Olivier Chaine, a Southern
California technology executive who was previously Vice President of
Web Operations at LowerMyBills.com. Chaine also was the founder of
Magnify360. Bicanic's last venture was EchoEcho, which was venture
backed by Google Ventures.

Toggle Finds Funding From Warner Bros.
----
Toggle, a new startup creating HDMI-based dongles to allow consumers
to purchase movies and other videos using UltraViolet, has raised a
seed round of funding from Warner Bros., the company announced last
night. The company--led by Adam Johnson--is looking to promote the use
of Warner's Ultraviolet movie storage service in retail channels.

Polar Pro Expands To Microphones
----
Newport Beach-based Polar Pro, the startup provider of GoPro
accessories and photo filters, is expanding into a new area today,
with the launch of a microphone for the GoPro. The company, led by
Jeff Overall, said its newest product is the ProMic, a microphone kit
specifically aimed at helping GoPro owners capture high quality audio.
The mic retails for $49.99, and includes a fixed right angle adapter
and a removable foam windscreen. Polar Pro said the new mic is
compatible with GoPro's Hero2, Hero3, and Hero3+ cameras.

Kofax Wins Big Order In Australia
----
Irvine-based document management software developer Kofax reported a
big contract win this morning in Australia, saying an Australian bank
has signed a $1M order for its software. Name of the bank was not
announced. Kofax said the bank is using its software for automating
processing of mortage applications and ancillary documents. Kofax said
the deal includes $1M in software license revenue, and over $200,000
in maintenance and other service fees.

Ethertronics Snags Manian As COO
----
San Diego-based Ethertronics, a developer of antenna and RF
technology, has snagged technology veteran Vahid Manian as its new
Chief Operating Officer, the company said today. Manian was most
recently at Entropic, serving as SVP Global Enginnering and
Operations, and also previously has served at Telegent Systems and
Broadcom. At Broadcom, he was SVP Global Manufacturing Operations.

SpaceX Selects Texas For Launch Facility
----
Hawthorne-based commercial rocket development firm SpaceX--which is
led by tech mogul Elon Musk--is setting up a commercial spaceport in
Texas, after a number of incentives offered by the state to attract

Eat Club Brings Startup Food Delivery Craze To LA
----
One of the hottest segments in Silicon Valley over the last few months
has been restaurant delivery services, which are delivering gourmet
and other meals to local startups, companies, and homes all over the
Bay Area. Now, one of those Bay Area startups--Eat Club--is taking
that concept to Los Angeles, with the launch of its meal delivery

Otonomy Sets Estimated IPO Pricing Range
----
San Diego-based Otonomy, which is developing treatments for diseases
of the inner and middle ear, set its estimated IPO pricing range
Friday. The company indicated in a filing that it now expects its IPO
at between $14.00 and $16.00 per share. Otonomy has applied to list on
the NASDAQ Global Market as OTIC. The company is venture backed by
Avalon Ventures, OrbiMed, Novo AS, TPG Biotech, Domain Associates,
Rivervest Venture Partners, as well as others. Setting and estimated
IPO pricing range is one of the activites which leads up to a
company's IPO, and generally occurs as the company embarks on a road
show to insitutional investors. Otonomy filed for its IPO on July
14th.
