Companies Propose $8 Billion Green Energy Initiative For LA

Four companies said today that they have proposed a new, $8 billion
initiative which will provide a huge amount of clean electricity to
the Los Angeles area, which combines the creation, of one of America's
largest wind farms, a huge energy storage facility, and a 525-mile,
transmission line, to help power an estimated 1.2 million homes

theAmplify Takes On Instagram Video Ads
----
A new, Culver City-based startup, theAmplify, said this morning that
it has launched a new, Instgram video ad service, aimed at helping
brands create video content to distribute through Instagram.
theAmplify said its service and tool combines tools and technology
with services as a "Instagram agency". Pricing on the new product was
not announced. theAmplify is led by Justin Rezvani.

Ivantis Gets $25M More
----
Irvine-based Ivantis, which is developing medical devices to treat
glaucoma, has raised $25M more in its Series B funding, the company
said this morning. The company said the new funding increases the
round to a total of $71M in funding. The funding came from Foresite
Capital, along with New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Delphi Ventures,
Ascension Ventures, Vertex Ventures, GBS Ventures, EDBI, and
MemorialCare Innovation Fund. Ivantis is developing a microstent
device which is aimed at lowering eye pressure for glaucoma patients.
The company said the new funds go towards clinical trials, and will
take the company through U.S. approvals. Ivantis is led by Dave Van
Meter.

Avalon Ventures, GlaxoSmithKline Team On Two New Startups
----
San Diego-based venture capital investor Avalon Ventures and
biopharmaceuticals firm GlaxoSmithKline said Monday that the two have
teamed up to fund and launch up to 10, early stage life science
companies. The two have initially funded two new companies, Silarus
Therapeutics and Thyritope Biosciences, providing both of those
companies $10M each in a Series A funding.  Both of those new drug
discovery startups will be located in San Diego, at COI
Pharmaceuticals, the biotech research facility recently established by
Avalon Ventures. According to Avalon Ventures and GSK, they will
provide up to $495M to fund those ten new companies. The deal had been
inked in April of 2013, part of an effort by GSK to help get more
startups from academia into the industry.

Kurion Sets New CFO
----
Irvine-based nuclear and hazardous waste management technology
developer Kurion said Monday that it has named Stephen Wright as the
company's new Chief Financial Officer. Wright was most recently at
Materia, where he had been Chief Operating Officer. Wright also has
served as SVP and CFO of Aerovironment, and also has been at L-3 Prime
Wave Communications, Cellotape, Inc., Globalstar L.P., and Adicom
Wireless, Inc.

Activision Taps Rudy Giuliani To Fight Former Dictator Noriega

In a bid to stave off a lawsuit from former Panamanian dictator Manual
Noriega, Santa Monica-based Activision has hired former New York Mayor
Rudy Giuliani to fight Noriega's claim that the company misappropriate
Noriega's likeness in developing the game "Call of Duty: Black Ops
II".

Fullscreen Acquired By Chernin Group, AT&T
----
Los Angeles-based Fullscreen Network is being acquired by Otter Media,
a joint venture of AT&T and The Chernin Group, in a deal which is
reportedly worth between $200M and $300M. Exact terms of the buy were
not announced. Fullscreen, which is led by George Strompolos, operates
a giant YouTube network. The companies said that Fullscreen CEO
Strompolos will continue in that position, and maintain a "material
ownership stake" in the company. Fullscreen was founded in January of
2011.

Kin Lands $12M For Women's Lifestyle Channels
----
Santa Monica-based KIN, which operates a female-focused lifestyle
YouTube network, has raised $12M in a funding round, the company said
last week. The funding came from Corus Entertainment, Emil Capital,
Mayfield Fund, General Catalyst Partners and Rustic Canyon Partners.
KIN develops YouTube content in the areas of food, fashion, beauty,
home, and the DIY areas, and is completely focused on female viewers.
The company said i thas had more than 200M collective views from 25
million unique visitors per month. The company is led by Michael
Wayne. The company says it has now raised $27M for its efforts.

Club W Gets $9.5M
----
Los Angeles-based subscription wine delivery company Club W announced
Monday that it has raised $9.5M in a Series A funding, for the
company's service which provides monthly delivery of wins to members.
The startup said the funding was led by Bessemer Venture partners. The
startup is led by Xander Oxman. According to Club W, the new funding
will go towards product development, integration of its supply chain,
and marketing initiatives. Club W has previously raised funding from
Crosscut Ventures, Guild Capital, Siemer Ventures, 500 Startups,
Amplify, and Brener International Group, plus Adam Goldenberg and
Csaba Konkoly, among others.

Realty Mogul Scores $73M Investment Partnership
----
Beverly Hills-based real estate crowdfunding site Realty Mogul
disclosed Monday morning that it has inked a $73M funding commitment
with company Direct Lending Investments. The two said that the funding
will go towards funding residential rehab loans through Realty Mogul's
platform. Realty Mogul operates an online crowdfunding site, which
lets people invest in real estate projects aroudn the U.S. The company
is led by Jilliene Helman. The company is venture backed by Canaan
Partners. Direct Lending Investments is a provider of short term, high
yield, and small business loans, according to the company.
