According to Slacker, the new service lets users customize their phone with music from an "immense" library of songs and its radio stations, at a cost of $2.00 per month. The different songs and music available to Verizon's customers can be used both as ringtones or as ringback tones, both of which can be assigned to specific callers. Slacker said that specific music--for example, Pharrell's 'Happy'--can be used as ringtones when your mother calls. Chick Launcher Names Finalists ---- Chick Launcher, the local effort to help bolster women led startups, has named the five finalists for its Fast Pitch Competition, the group said this week. According to the company, the contract comes from the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) for measurement devices used to monitor temperature and salinity at different depths of the ocean. The company says the contract covers those sensors, its Autonomous Profiling Explorer (APEX) profiling floats, which are already widely in use; Teledyne says it has delivered more than 8,000 of those floats since 1982. Citrix Online's Brett Caine Named CEO At Urban Airship ---- Brett Caine, who grew Santa Barbara-based Citrix Online from $40M to $600M in revenues with over 10 years at the company, has taken the helm at startup Urban Airship. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Xyo develops an app search engine and contextual advertising technology used by mobile operators, including Verizon, Voadafone Australia, Deutsche Telekom Europe, and T-Mobile USA. Mandalay Digital said that Xyo co-founders Zoe Adamovicz and Marcin Rudolf will join its Digital Turbine team. Xyo's app discovery engine are used to help smartphone owners find and sort through hundreds of apps and games. Channel Technologies Group Buys Materials Systems Inc. ---- Santa Barbara-based Channel Technologies Group, which manufacturers sonar and navigation systems, piezoelectric ceramics, transducers, and other products used in the defense and other industries, said Thursday that it has acquired Materials Systems Inc., a manufacturer of piezecomposite sonar transducers and arrays for defense and commercial customers. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. CTG is backed by Blue Wolf Capital Fund II, LP.
