Financial details of the link were not disclosed. The two said that they will offer up Unitas' private cloud products in tandem with Alert Logic's managed security products. Allegro Opthalmics Gets $2M From Leona Helmsley ---- San Juan Capistrano-based Allegro Opthalmics> said this morning that it has received a $2M grant from the The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. the company said the grant will help advance clinical studies of its compound for the treatment of diabetic macular edema. Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is the leading cause of blindness in working age American diabetics, according to the company. Allegro Opthalmics is in the midst of Phase 2 studies, and recently raised a big round of funding from Hanmi Pharmaceutical. uSamp Becomes Instantly ---- Los Angeles-based survey and sampling provider uSamp said this morning that it has renamed the company to Instantly. The company said the move is part of an effort to provide a single entity for its many tools, as well as help in continued growth. Instantly is led by Alan Gould. The company develops a sample service which connect researchers and marketers with consumers for consumer surveys, in addition to related tools. MamaBear Names CEO ---- Santa Monica-based MamaBear, which develops a family communications and parenting app, said Monday that it has named Suzanne Horton as the company's new President and CEO. She previously served at Invitation homes (backed by Blackstone), was CEO of BeJane, and also served at JitterBug, Homebuilder.com, and at the venture arm of American Express. MamaBear's parenting app provides a way for parents to keep tabs on their children and their locations, monitoring of childrens' social media, schedule coordination and family communications, and other relateed features. Cynvenio Ships Genomic Testing System ---- Los Angeles-based Cynvenio Biosystems said yesterday that it has shipped its LiquidBiopsy, genetic testing system for blood samples, with nationwide availability of the product. The company develops a platform which is aimed at doctors and cancer researchers, and performs next-generation sequencing (NGS) on the tumor cells in whole blood, aimed at helping in monitoring cancer and for cancer diagnostics. The company's equipment is able to detect even very low levels of tumor cells in the bloodstream. Teledyne Buys Bowtech For Underwater Cameras ---- Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne said Monday that it has acquired Bowtech Products Limited, an Aberdeen, Scotland maker of underwater vision systems. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Bowtech's cameras are used in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and other harsh underwater systems, and was founded in 1989. Teledyne said the buy helps fill a product gap in its marine technology portfolio. Sony Online Entertainment Sold To Investment Firm ---- San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment, the developer of EverQuest and other massively multiplayer, online games, has been sold to investment management firm Columbus Nova, SOE said late Monday morning. The company said it has been acquird by Columbus Nova, which will rename the company Daybreak Game Company, and will continue to operate as an independent game development studio. The company said that it will be "business as usual" for game players, but that the move will allow it to expand into a multi-platform gaming company, supporting PlayStation, Xbox, mobile, and other platforms.
