SpaceX Satellite Launch Now Targeted For Today
----
Hawthorne-based SpaceX is looking to launch its latest mission--the
launch of an space weather satellite for the U.S. Air Force--later
today, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, the company said in its updates on
Monday. SpaceX said its next launch window is today, at 6:05pm ET,
with another, backup launch opportunity on Wednesday at 6:03pm ET.
SpaceX delayed the original, weekend launch of its latest mission due
to issues with an Air Force tracking radar. SpaceX is launching a
space weather satellite--used to monitor space conditions, which can
have very significant impact on satellites and communications--for the
Air Force.

Rubicon Project: Valentine's Day Is Last Minute
----
Los Angeles-based Rubicon Project has run another of its online
advertising surveys, ahead of Valentine's Day, and says that it has
found that 89% of purchases for the holiday are "last minute"--in the
week before the holiday, and 38 percent of people wait until the last
24 hours before purchasing a Valentine Day's gift. (More...)

Legend3D Takes On Virtual Reality
----
Hollywood-based 3D and visual effects studio Legend3D is getting into
the virtual reality business, saying this morning that it has opened
up a brand new Virtual Reality division. Legedn3D said it will help
create immersive, VR experiences for film studios, ad agency, and
global retail partners. The company already released its first,
virtual reality title--a short call The Recruit: R U In--which it
showed off at CES. Legend3D said it will work on both 2D and 3D
virtual reality experiences, for any VR device.

RealD Seeks Buyer, Hires Investment Bank
----
Los Angeles-based 3D theater projection company RealD said late Monday
that it has started a process to review "strategic alternatives" for
the company, and hired investment banking firm Moelis & Company LLC as
a financial advisor. RealD said the move is a "logical next step" to
unlock value for its shareholders. The announcement ccame as the
company reported a loss of $11.3M on revenues of $32.6M in the
company's third quarter fiscal 2015. Those revenues were a sharp drop
from the company's third quarter of fiscal 2014, when the company had
revenues of $55.4M.

Qualcomm To Pay Nearly $1 Billion To China
----
San Diego-based Qualcomm said late Monday that it will pay $975
million to China, to settle China's claims that the company had
violated its anti-monopoly laws. Qualcomm reached the record payment
after a resolution with China's National Development and Reform

Dexcom Aims To Bring Diabetes Monitor To Apple Watch

San Diego-based Dexcom, a developer of medical devices used to monitor
the blood glucose level of diabetes patients, is looking to become the
first provider of a glucose monitoring app on the Apple Watch.

Vinny Smith's Toba Capital Backs Sauce Labs
----
Vinny Smith, the former CEO of Orange County's Quest Software, has
backed a developer of web and mobile application development, via his
investment firm, Toba Capital. San Francisco-based Sauce Labs said
last week that Toba had backed the company in a $15M, Series D funding
round, for the company's testing software, which is aimed at the
mobile and web application development market.

Payoff Adds ING Direct Founder To Board
----
Costa Mesa-based Payoff, the consumer finance product provider led by
Scott Saunders, has snagged another high profile finance executive to
the board. Payoff said this morning that Arkadi Kuhlmann--who founded
ING Direct--has joined the company's board of directors. Kuhlmann is
currently founder and CEO of Zenbanx, and also was the CEO of Savings.
Payoff said that Kuhlmann also invested in the company's recent
funding round. Payoff has a board full of notable executives,
including Arianna Huffington, Mohamed El-Erian (formerly of Pimco),
Joe Saunders (formerly the CEO of Visa), and a number of others.
Payoff is aiming at refinancing consumers' high interest, credit
cards.

Maker Studios Powers Sling TV Launch

Los Angeles-based Maker Studios is helping to power the launch of a
new, live television service from Sling TV, the new online-only video
