Nexus eWater Gets $2.1M For Water, Energy Recycling Device
----
Nexus eWater, a startup that has developed a device that recycles both
residential water and energy, said today that it has raised $2.1M in a
Series A funding round--and is taking aim at California's continuing,
severe drought. The company--which has offices in Lancaster, but is
based in Australia--has created a device which takes greywater from
homes, and both cleans that water for use in irrigation and captures

Arrowhead Buys RNAi Research and Development Assets From Novartis
----
Pasadena-based Arrowhead Research said this morning that it has
acquired the entire RNAI research and development portfolio and
associated assets of Novartis. According to Arrowhead, the deal was
worth $35M, made up of a $7M cash payment, $3M in cash later, and $25M
in Arrowhead common stock, to be paid within 30 days. Arrowhead said
the deal also includes milestones and royalties on sales of future
products. Arrowhead will also gain a number of patents and patent
applications related to the RNAi technology.

Petcha.com, Trupanion In Partnership
----
Irvine-based Petcha.com, an online site for helping people find a new
pet--owned by I-5 Publishing--and pet insurance provider Trupanion
said today that they are in a new alliance. The two said that
Trupanion will offer up medical insurance to pets adopted from
Petcha's shelters, rescue, or breeders. The deal also includes native
content which will be integrated into Petcha.com's web site, as well
as promotional offers, coupons, and discouns to consumers. Financial
details of the deal were not announced. I-5 Publishing publishes such
sites as Dogster and Catster.

National Technical Systems Acquires National Quality Assurance
----
Calabasas-based National Technical Systems, the provider of testing,
certification, inspection, and other related services, said this
morning that it is acquiring UK-based National Quality Assurance, a
provider of ISO testing services. Financial terms of the deal were not
disclosed. NTS said that National Quality Assurance (NQA) is one of
the largest ISO registrars in the world, with more than 32,000 active
certifications in 75 countries. The two said they have been working
together since 1992, and are former joint venture partners. NTS is
owned by LA private equity investor Aurora Capital Group.

Alorica Completes $275M West Corporation Buy
----
Irvine-based business process outsourcing provider Alorica said
Wednesday that it has completed its $275M acquisition of West
Corporation. Alorica had originally announced the deal back in
January. Alorica said the acquisition makes it the largest business
process outsourcing provider in the U.S., with a net worth of $1.2
billion. Alorica said the buy expands its product offerings and market
reach, and gives it approximately 48,000 employees worldwide.

Semtech Buys Triune Systems For Wireless Charging
----
Camarillo-based Semtech said late Wednesday that it has acquired
Triune Systems, a developer of wireless charging and power management
systems. Semtech said it paid approximately $45M, plus earn out, for
Triune. Triune was based in Texas, and has 35 employees, all of whom
are joining Semtech. Triune's products are aimed at the wearable,
industrial, and automotive market, where the company's platform can
deliver up to 100W of power. Semtech said the deal is expected to be
slightly accretive for its fiscal year 2016.

Hulu Lands Wiggles TV Series
----
Are your kids a fan of The Wiggles, the popular Australian kids'
singing group? Los Angeles-based Hulu is continuing to build up its
lineup of kids' programs, saying Wednesday that it has signed a deal
with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, as the exclusive, U.S.
premiere home of series 2 of the Wiggles' television program, Ready
Steady Wiggle. Financial details of the deal were not announced by
Hulu. The deal makes all 104 episodes of Ready, Steady, Wiggle
available to Hulu's subscribers.

Snapchat's Evan Spiegel Youngest Billionaire On Forbes List
----
Forbes published its ranking of all of the world's billionaires this
week, with an interesting addition: the co-founders of Venice,
California-based Snapchat. Evan Spiegal, the 24-year old CEO of
Snapchat, was the youngest billionaire on the list, wiith an estimated
net worth of $1.5 billion, ranked at #1250.  (More...)

CurbStand Expands To Denver
----
Los Angeles-based valet parking startup CurbStand, which is offering
up mobile payments and other apps aimed at valet parking operators,
said Wednesday that it has expanded its network to Denver. CurbStand
is led by Serge Gojkovich. According to CurbStand, it is launching
with sixteen locations in Denver, with plans to expand to 50 locations
in the city in the next four months. Curbstand helps direct smartphone
users to nearby valet parking operations, allowing users to pay with a
credit card and request their car in advance. The startup also offers
up a large number of back-end tools specifically to help out the valet
parking operators, in addition to marketing and other promotional
efforts.
