RadPad Links Into Apple Pay, Lets Renters Pay Rent Using Their iPhone
----
Los Angeles-based rental marketplace RadPad said late Monday that it
has started supporting Apple Pay, letting renters pay their rent using
the new Apple payment method. RadPad said the company's rent splitting
and payment system supports the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and the new
Apple Watch.  RadPad is led by Jonathan Eppers, and only recently
launched its app to help renters to pay their rent using a credit or
debit card, rather than cash or check.  The startup is backed by SG
VC, L.P., Social Leverage L.P. and Michael Huffington.

Boingo Wireless In Wi-Fi Offload Deal With Major Carrier
----
Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless reports that it has signed a major,
U.S. tier one wireless carrier in a Wi-Fi offload agreement. Name of
the carrier was not announced, nor were financial terms of the deal,
however, Boingo said that the deal will offload Wi-Fi on 40 million
handsets using Boingo's network in 2015. Boingo said the Wi-Fi offload
deal will automatically connect a user's mobile phone to its
networks--without user intervention--to offload traffic data on the
un-named carrier's cellular network. Boingo explained that the system
will automatically connect a customer's device into its network
without user interaction. Boingo Wireless is led by David Hagan.

SOA Software Becomes Akana
----
Los Angeles-based SOA Software said this morning that it has renamed
the company to Akana, as it has broadened its software base. According
the company, which is led by Paul Gigg, the name change comes as the
company has expanded beyond its roots in Service Oriented Architecture
(SOA) and Web Services, and now addresses API management, cloud
integration, DevOps, and other enterprise software areas. The name
change is actually the second for the company, which changed its name
to SOA Software in March of 2005 from its original name, Digital
Evolution.

Kurion Sets New President
----
Irvine-based Kurion, the developer of nuclear waste management
technology, said today that it has named Jacques Besnainou as its new
President. Besnainou was previously at nuclear services company AREVA,
and also had served at Ecobilan. Kurion says Besnainou is based in
Washington, D.C., and has been advising the company since mid-2014.
Kurion is best known for applying its nuclear waste technology to the
cleanup at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and Hanford.

Vixlet Names Former GM CEO As Advisor
----
Los Angeles-based Vixlet, a startup developing a social networking
site linked to sports leagues, teams, and entertainment companies,
said this morning that it has named former General Motors Chairman and
CEO Daniel "Dan" Akerson as a special advisor to the company. Akerson
is currently Vice Chairman and Special Advisor to the Board of
Directors of The Carlyle Group, and also has served at MCI
Communications, General Instruments, Nextel Communications, and XO
Communications. Vixlet is led by Lisa  Gopalakrishnan and Krishna
Gopala, and although it has yet to launch publicly has a number of
partnerships already anounced with sports teams.

Resonant Signs New Customer   For RF Technology
----
Santa Barbara-based Resonant, which is developing radio frequency
filer technology for mobile front-ends, said yesterday afternoon that
it has signed a second customer for its technology. Name of the
customer was not disclosed. Resonant said it would not disclose the
customer name nor the band that the filter will be developed for due
to the competitive nature of the industry. The company said the
customer is developing a duplexer aimed at RF front-end manufacturers
and mobile device OEMs. Resonant' filters are used to select only the
radio frequency signals required for a mobile or other RF device's
circuits.

SlipChip Gets $26.5M For Microfluidics Technology

Pasadena-based SlipChip, a Caltech spinoff developing microfluidics
technology, has raised $26.5M (More...)

AltheaDx Drops IPO Plans
----
San Diego-based molecular diagnostics developer AltheaDX has dropped
its plans for an IPO, saying in a SEC filing Monday that it is
withdrawing its S-1 and does not plan to pursue its IPO.
AltheaDx--which originally filed confidentially for an IPO in July of
2014, and revealed its plans in December, said in its filing that the
terms on the public marketplace are "not sufficiently attractive" to
the company. AltheaDx had originally planned to IPO on the NASDAQ
Global Market as IDGX. The company is venture backed by Telegraph Hill
Partners and Alma Life Sciences.

Coverhound Raises $14M To Ramp Hiring In Westlake Village
----
CoverHound, a startup which offers up an online marketplace for auto,
motorcycle, home, and renter's insurance, said this morning that it
has doubled its space in Southern California, as part of a new funding

Snapchat Courts Saudi Arabian Prince In New Funding
----
Venice, California-based Snapchat is in discussions with Saudi Arabian
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, over possible future funding for the
company, according to the Prince's investment firm, Kingdom Holding
Company. According to KHC, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal met with Snapchat
CEO Evan Spiegel, along with Imran Khan, Chief Strategy Officer,
Snapchat over the weekend, at the Prince's Kingdom Resort. Kingdom
Holding Company did not reveal any other details of the possible
investment. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal's investment company owns huge
stakes in such companies as Citigroup, 1st Century Fox, the Fairmont
New York Plaza, Twitter, and many other U.S. companies, and says the
Prince is the largest individual foreign investor in the United
States.

March 24, LA Harbor College -- PortTech Forum looks at the impact to local
business owners and operators due to the newStormwater Runoff Rules that
go into effect on July 1.  The revised regulations are broader in scope
and introduce new compliance requirements needed to reduce the flow of
contaminated waters into sewers, flood control channels and ultimately the
