Gore ---- Carpinteria-based Helix Medical, a manufacturer of products for the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, said today that it has acquired a line of products from W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc.. Helix Medical said it has acquired W.L. Gore's silicone tubing product line, which is used by pharmaceutical and biotech customers for fluid transfers and peristaltic pumps. Helix Medical had been Gore's silicon tubing supplier. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Helix Medical said it will market the tubes under its PharmaFocus Premium brand. iTECH Acquired By Universal Power Group ---- San Diego-based iTECH, a manufacturer of lithium ion batteries, chargers, docking stations, cradles, and other products, has been acquired by Texas-based Universal Power Group. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Universal Power Group said the acquisition will help it bolsters its products and open new markets for the company. iTECH's products are used in the medical, safety and security, communications and handheld markets. Universal Power Group said that iTECH's senior management team will remain in place. iTECH was founded in 1991, when it had been a division of HM Electronics, and was acquired by CEO Don Kurtz in 1997. NeuroVigil Finds More Funding ---- La Jolla-based NeuroVigil, a developer of brain monitoring tools and technology, said it has received a second financing round. Size of the funding was not disclosed. According to the company, the round was led by Howard Morgan, and also included Elon Musk, Tim Draper, and Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Zone Ventures. The startup is led by Dr. Philip Low, who founded NeuroVigil based on research he did as a graduate student at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. NeuroVigil is developing a non-invasive, portable brain scanning device. The company raised its seed funding round in 2008 as part of the DFJ Venture Challenge. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showdeal&id=63860 Launch Media's David Goldberg Passes Away ---- David Goldberg, who had founded LA's Launch Media, has passed away suddenly, while on vacation. Goldberg was 47. Goldberg had been serving as CEO of SurveyMonkey in Silicon Valley, and was married to Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg. Goldberg had also served as President of Yahoo Music in Los Angeles. Yahoo acquireed Launch Media back in 2001, eventually renaming the site to become Yahoo Music. Goldberg founded LAUNCH Media in 1994, and prior to that, had served at Capital Records in Los Angeles. He also was on the board of directors of Filmtrack, as well as the New Schools Venture Fund. Tech Coast Angels Makes Eight Investments, Sees Two Exits In Q1 ---- The Tech Coast Angels, one of the most active angel investment groups nationwide in addition to here in Southern California, said Friday that it invested in eight new and follow on deals in the first quarter of 2015, in addition to seeing two exits out of its portfolio. The TCA did not say how much it invested in the quarter, but sale the investments in the first quarter went to Groundmetrics, ImmunoGum, iPourIt, Pediatric Biosciences, Playlist Media, Schlep & Fetch, Spine Innovation and Twigtale. The angel group said the exits came via Olive Medical and Thermark. Both Thermark and Olive Medical were acquired in February. BigRentz Scores Growth Funding ---- Irvine-based BigRentz, which operates an online marketplace for heavy equipment rentals, has reportedly raised a round of growth capital funding from St. Cloud Capital. Details of that funding were not announced.
