Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Leviton said that Intense Lighting will operate as a new, standalone business unit of the company, and continue to maintain its operations in Anaheim. Intense Lighting provides LED lighting products for the commercial, hospitality, supermarket, retail and residential markets. The new business unit will be led by Kenny Eidsvold, who is currently President of Intense Lighting. Ceres Gets Soybean Gene Patent ---- Thousand Oaks-based agricultural biotechnology develper Ceres announced this morning that it has received a U.S. patent, covering the company's genetic sequence derived from soybean, which is aimed at producing improved soybean varieties. The company says it now has approximately 85 issued patents and numerous patent applications. The new patent, U.S. Patent No. 9,024,004, was issued on May 5th, and names Nickolai Alexandrov, Vyacheslav Brover, and Kenneth Feldmann as inventors, and was filed in October of 2014. The company was represented by Fish & Richardson P.C. in the patent filing. Neudesic Buys Web4 ---- Irvine-based Neudesic, which develops software and services for the enterprise market, said today that it has acquired Anaheim-based Web4, a provider of enterprise content management (ECM), human resources, and collaboration software. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. The companies said that Web4 will become a distinct unit of Neudesic. Neudesic is led by Parsa Rohani. Mitek Buys IDchecker ---- San Diego-based Mitek, a developer of mobile capture and identification systems, said Tuesday that it has acquired Netherlands-based IDchecker, a developer of cloud-based identify and facial recognition software. Mitek said it would pay $10.6M for IDchecker, split between $5.85M in cash and $2.75M in stock, plus up to $2M more in stock in earnout. The company said the buy will expand its product portfolio. IDchecker is based in Haarlem, The Netherlands, and serves the international money transfer, payments, and other financial services companies. Classmates Pays $11M To Settle Deceptive Marketing, Billing Allegations ---- Classmates, the online website which is part of Woodland Hills-based United Online, has agreed to pay $11.0M to settle allegations of deceptive marketing and billing by the company--an investigation which has been running since 2010. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Surreal Vision develops real-time, 3D scene reconstruction software, which is used to create real-time, representations of the real, physical world in software. Oculus said it would hire the three founders of Surreal Vision as part of its research team in Redmond, Washington. HelloTech Adds $2M, Launches In-Home Tech Support In LA ---- Los Angeles-based on-demand, in-home tech support and sales service HelloTech, which was founded by AmplifyLA/RealNetworks veteran Richard Wolpert, has raised another $2M, and officially launched its service in Los Aneles. According to HelloTech, the new funding came from Collaborative Fund, Baroda Ventures, Greycroft Partners, and Silicon Valley Bank along with Accel Partners, Upfront Ventures, CrossCut Ventures, Amplify.LA, and others. According to HelloTech, it is tapping a vetted and trained college student workforce for its service, which helps Boomers and Gen X homeowners who love technology but who need help installing and maintaining that technology, by tapping into "digital native" college students.
