Avalon Venturs said that Adrenergics, CadheRx Therapeutics, and Calporta Therapeutics have all received $10M in Series A funding, and will receive R&D support from Avalon Ventures and GSK. All three companies are based in San Diego, and will be colocated at COI Pharmaceuticals. Avalon and GSK have a deal to fund and launch up to 10, early-stage life sciences companies together. Adrenergics is focuses on treatments for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM); CadheRx is developing therapeutic antibodies for treating solid tumors; Calporta is developing small molecule agonists to treat Niemann-Pick C Disease (NPC) and other lysosomal storage diseases. http://www.socaltech.com/avalon_ventures_launches_trio_of_life_science_startups/s-0060623.html Glaukos Sets IPO Pricing Range, Launches IPO ---- Laguna Hills-based Glaukos Corporation, which is developing medical devices for treating glaucoma, said this morning that it has formally launched its IPO, and is now looking to sell 5,358,000 shares of its common stock at between $13.00 and $15.00 per share. Glaukos said it has applied to list on the New York Stock Exchange as GKOS. Glaukos had filed for its IPO in May, but by setting a pricing range, is one step closer to the market. The IPO is being underwritten by J.P. Morgan, BofA Merrill Lynch, and Goldman, Sachs & Co., along with William Blair and Cantor Fitzgerald. RealtyMogul.com Backs Medical Office Building ---- Los Angeles-based online real estate funding marketplace RealtyMogul.com said Friday that it has copelted an equity capital raise for a multi-tenant medical office building in Texas. Size of the transaction was not announced. RealtyMogul, which is led by Jilliene Helman, operates a peer-to-peer, crowdfunded marketplace which helps real estate developer raise funding from accredited investors. WeMo, OSRAM SYLVANIA Launch Connected LED Lighting ---- Playa Vista-based WeMo, the home automation brand of Belkin, launched a new set of connected, LED lighting products with OSRAM SYLVANIA this morning, including a set of color changing LED lights. According to the two companies, the new lighting starter sets all include Wemo's ZigBee-to-Wi-Fi bridge, allowing those LED lights to be controlled by a smartphone or computer. The new products include a color changing, outdoor lighting product called the Gardenspot Mini RGB Starter Set; the WebMo + OSRAM LIGHTIFY tunable white LED bulbs, which can be tuned to very specific white lighting tones; and a color changing, flexible decorate lighting set called the Flex RGBW Starter Set. Warner Rolls Out LEGO Jurassic World ---- Burbank-based videogame developer Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has rolled out a new videogame Friday, based on the new Jurassic World film. Warner said that, along with TT Games it rolled out LEGO Jurassic World for Playstaiton 4, Playstation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, Nintendo, Nintendo 3DS, and Windows PC. The videogame notably lets users play the game as a dinosaur, instead of the usual LEGO people, and also includes features based on the entire series of Jurassic Park movies. Surf Air: 1,600 Members, Over 13,000 Flights ---- Los Angeles-based membership airline Surf Air says it now has more than 1,600 members, and has flown over 13,000 flights, two years after its debut--according to the company's sales emails. The numbers, if accurate, indicate that the company has been having some success in increasing its membership numbers, which in February had been pegged at 1,200 members. Surf Air offers an all-you-can-fly service between Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Palm Springs, and other cities within California, which has proven popular with local technology executives and investors.
