Page Howe: Why Everyone In LA Ought To Have a .LA Domain

We recently ran into Page Howe, the Chief Engagement Officer for the
.LA (www.la) domain name extension, who sat down with us and told us
about why he's out making the rounds with community groups and events,
promoting the use of .LA as a domain extension. Howe is a veteran of
the domain name business, having made his name buying and selling
domain names over the years, including having founded Joe's Domains.
He recently opened an office here in LA to promote the .LA domain
name, and we caught up with him to hear more about why he things
everyone should get their own .LA domain name.

Maxwell Technologies Gets $25M In Credit Facility
----
San Diego-based Maxwell Technologies, which develops
ultracapacitor-based energy storage and other products, said today
that it has received a $25M, three year revolving line of credit. The
new funding will go towards working capital. Maxwell said the line
comes from East West Bank. Terms of the credit line were not
disclosed. Maxwell develops ultracapacitor products, power modules,
and a number of other energy and aerospace related products.

Teledyne Increases Stake in Robot Maker Ocean Aero
----
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies has increased its stake in
San Diego-based Ocean Aero, a developer of unmanned, robotic
underwater and surface vehicles used for the scientific, defense, and
oil and gas market, the company said late Friday. Financial terms of
the deal were not disclosed. According to Teledyne, it now owns 37
percent of Ocean Aero. Teledyne made its initial investment in Ocean
Aero in July of 2014. Ocean Aero's unmanned, robotic vehicles can
travel on both the surface of the water as well as underwater.

RealtyMogul.com Bolsters Executive Staff
----
Los Angeles-based online real estate investing marketplace
RealtyMogul.com said today that it has added two new executives to its
staff. According to the company, it hass added Michael Sanchez and
Charles H. Kim, CFA, to the company's Commercial Lending Division.
Sanchez was formerly Senior Vice President and Kim was Vice President
and Colony Capital. RealtyMogul offers up an online marketplace to
help connect real estate developers with capital from accredited and
institutional investors.

Moviepilot Links With Entertainment Weekly On Comic-Con Videos
----
Los Angeles-based entertainment fan site Moviepilot and Entertainment
Weekly said this week that they will be presenting videos from the San
Diego Comic-Con, as part of a new content partnership. Financial
details of the partnership were not disclosed. The new content will be
available both on Moviepilot as well as EW.com. Moviepilot is led by
Tobi Bauckhage.  Comic-Con runs from July 9th until July 12th.

Pluto.TV Inks Deals For Content From Hulu, Jukin, Others
----
Los Angeles-based streaming media site Pluto TV has inked a deal to
stream free content from Hulu, Jukin Media, and a number of others, to
bolster the content lineup for the service. Financial details of the
various deals were not announced. Pluto.tv operates an online and
mobile service which provides curated access to video streaming
content, and is venture backed by U.S. Venture Partners, United Talent
Agency, Sky plc, Chicago Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital,
Luminari Capital, as well as angels. The company raised a $13M funding
round back in November of 2014. The deal with Los Angeles-based Jukin
Media gives Pluto.TV access to Jukin's popular FailArmy channel, among
other content.

VUBIQUITY Partners With Rotten Tomatoes
----
Los Angeles-based VUBIQUITY, a provider of content monetization
technology and services for the entertainment and media industry, has
teamed up with movie and TV service Rotten Tomatoes, the two said
yesterday. According to the two, they are launching a program which
will offer up a curated collection of films available to VUBIQUITY's
affiliates for on demand rental. The two said those films will be
highly rated films on Rotten Tomatoes, and will be made available to
cable and telco affiliates in ajor markets. Financial details of the
deal were not disclosed. The program centers on Rotten Tomatoes
"Certified Fresh" label, which is applied to better rated movies.
Rotten Tomatoes provides ratings and reviews of movies and television
shows.

Interlink Electronics Expands In Singapore
----
Westlake Village-based Interlink Electronics, which designs and
manufactures touchpads, mouse pointing devices, wireless remote
controls, and other products, said it is expanding in Singapore.
According to Interlink, it is adding R&D engineers in Singapore, to
tap into Singapore's talented engineering workforce and conducive
business environment. Interlink also said it is eliminating a number
of European VPs, and will instead shift those roles to new hires in
Singapore.

Rocket Lab Sets Up Orbital Launch Site
----
Los Angeles-based Rocket Lab, a venture-backed startup which is
developing commercial launch vehicles specifically aimed at delivering
small satellites into space, said it has set up an orbital launch
site. The company said it plans to build a launch site Kaitorete Spit
in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island, to support
future launches of its launch vehicle. Rocket Lab is venture backed by
Khosla Ventures, K1W1, Bessemer Venture Partners and Lockheed Martin.

NantHealth Raises $200M From Allscripts
----
Los Angeles-based NantHealth, one of the life sciences companies that
is part of billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong's NantWorks, has scored
$200M in an investment from Allscripts, the two said Tuesday.
According to the two companies, the investment gives Allscripts a 10
percent stake in Nanthealth. The two also said that NantCapital, the
personal investment fund of Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, has made a $100M
investment into Allscripts. NantHealth is developing genomic and
protein-based molecular diagnostics technology, initially aimed at
personalizing cancer treatment regimes for patients based on the
genetic profile of cancer cells in their system.

DJO Global Buys Product Line From Zimmer Biomet
----
San Diego-based DJO Global, a developer and manufacturer of medical
products for the orthopedics area, said this week that it has acquired
a number of assets from Zimmer Biomet Holdings. Financial details of
the deal were not announced. The acquisition was made via DJO Global
subsidiary Encore Medical L.P. DJO Global makes a wide range of
medical products, including knee braces and other orthopedic devices.

Classy Captures $18M For Nonprofit Software
----
San Diego-based Classy, which develops cloud-based software used by
nonprofits for fundraising, disclosed that it has raised $18M in a new
funding round. The funding came from Mithril Capital Management and
Salesforce Ventures. Classy was founded in 2006 as StayClassy, and
also counts Bullpen Capital and Venture51 as backers. Classy allows
nonprofits to create fundraising campaigns for specific projects or
year-round initiatives, with features such as leaderboards,
user-generated media, team fundraising pages, mobile support, and
more. The company is led by Scott Chisolm.

ParkMe Links Into Apple Pay
----
Los Angeles-based parking app developer ParkMe said this week that it
has released an update to its app software, and added Apple Pay as a
form of payment for parking. ParkMe--which helps users find parking
spots, and also lets users pay for parking at parking garages and paid
parking lots--said the updated app supports Apple Pay on the iPhone 6,
iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3. ParkMe says it now has a database over
over 81,000 parking locations.

HomeHero Gets $23M For Senior Home Care Marketplace
----
Santa Monica-based HomeHero, a new startup providing an online
marketplace for in-home, senior care services, said Tuesday afternoon
that it has raised $20M in a Series A funding round. The funding came
from Graham Holding Company, along with Social+Capital Partnership,
Tencent Holdings Limited and The Launch Fund. The funding comes on top
of an earlier, $3M seed round for the company last year from
SocialCapital. HomeHero is led by Kyle Hill. The company said the
funding will go towards expansion of its service beyond Los Angeles,
to San Diego and San Francisco, plus key hires.

develops cloud-based software used for expense reporting and automated

Inari Medical Finds $12.4M
----
Irvine-based medical device developer Inari Medical has raised $12.4M
in a Series B funding, the company announced this morning, for its
efforts to develop medical devices for the vascular thrombus and
emboli. The funding came from Versant Ventures and US Venture
Partners, both of which are existing investors in the company. Inari
also said tun-named, medical device industry veterans also joined in
the round. Inari Medical is led by Bill Hoffman.

Quarterly Gets Funding From Science
----
Los Angeles-based subscription box service Quarterly, which develops
unique gift boxes every three months from such influencers as Pharrell
Williams, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and actress Rosario Dawson, has
raised a round of funding and connected with Los Angeles-based Science
Inc.. Size of the investment was not disclosed. The two said they will
also partner to leverage Science's growth engine and business strategy
expertise, as well as tap into Science's network of influencers.
Quarterly is led by Zach Frechette. Science has extensive experience
in the subscription area, with other, subscription-based businesses
like Dollar Shave Club, and influencer businesses like HelloSociety.

Semtech Sees First Low Power Networking Chip Deployment
----
Camarillo-based Semtech said today that it has seen its first
deployment of its low power, wide area networking chipsets in North
America, via network-as-a-service provider Senet. According to
Semtech, Senet has deployed 50 towers with a network coverage of more
than 15,000 square miles, using Semtech's LoRa technology, for an
Internet-of-Things application. Semtech's technology is initially
being used by a utility delivering propane and heating fuel. The two
said the network is now also being aimed at other, Internet-of-Things
verticals, such as agriculture, smart parking, building management,
supply chain management, water metering, water leak detection,
industrial asset tracking and healthcare.

Linksys Ships New High Gain Wi-Fi Antennas
----
Irvine-based Linksys, the unit of Belkin which develops home and
business networking equipment, said today that it has launched a new,
high gain antenna for Wi-Fi networks. The company said its new,
dual-band, omni-directional antennas help provide roughly 2 times the
performance over stock antennas on most wireless routers. The new
antennas--which provider 4dBi gain in 2.4Ghz and 7dBi in 5Ghz--are
aimed at use at the edge of Wi-Fi networks, and simply replace a
router's existing RP-SMA antenna. The new antennas starat $59.99.

AnaptysBio Names Board Members
----
San Diego-based therapeutic antibody developer AnaptysBio announced
this morning that it hass named two new board members. AnaptysBio said
it added Hollings Renton--the former CEO and president of Onyx
Pharmaceuticals-- and John Schmid--former CFO of Auspex
Pharmaceuticals--to add strategic plannning and corporate finance
exertise to the company's board. Renton also served at Chiron
Corporation, Cetus Corporation, and is currently onn the boards of
Portola Pharmaceuticals, Cepheid, and Kythera Biopharmaceuticals.
Schmid had also served at Trius Therapeutics, GeneFormatics,
Endonetics, and is on the baords of Neos Therapeutics and Speak, Inc.

Ixia Expands Board
----
Calabasas-based Ixia, which provides network and application
performance testing hardware and software, said Tuesday that it has
expanded its board of directors. The company said that Ilan Daskal,
who is the Executive Vice President and CFO of Cepheid, will join the
company and head up its audit committee. Daskal also has served as CFO
of International Rectifier, and also at Infineon Technologies AG,
among other companies.

Cast & Crew Acquired by Silver Lake
----
Burbank-based Cast & Crew Entertainment Services, a provider of
technology and payroll services to the entertainment industry, said
today that it has acquired by private equity investor Silver Lake.
Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Cast & Crew was owned
by ZM Capital, and offers up technology-enabled production accounting
and related value-added services to the entertainment industry. Cast &
Crew was advised by Moelis & Company LLC, Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC and
Sidley Austin LLP in the deal. Silver Lake was represented by Kirkland
& Ellis LLP. Debt funding for the deal came from RBC Capital Markets,
Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank Securities and Societe Generale.

SpaceX Sees Catastrophic Failure As Rocket Explodes On Launch
----
In a huge blow to what had been an unstoppable local success story,
Hawthorne-based rocketship developer SpaceX saw a catastrophic failure
on Sunday morning, which resulted in the explosion and destruction of
what would have been the seventh mission to resupply the International

CapLinked Adds Live Document Editing
----
Los Angeles-based CapLinked, which develops virtual data room software
for managing deals, said last week that it has launched a new, Live
Document Editing feature for its software. The company said the new
feature lets users update and edit all of their documents while
working within the software. CapLinked's software is used to manage
and organize due diligence and other deal paperwork for financing and
other transactions. CapLinked is backed by FF Angel, Peter Thiel,
Siemer Ventures, 500 Startups, 7th Rig, and Subtraction Capital.
