The funding came from Ally Bridge Group and WI Harper Group along with Whitesun Healthcare Ventures and Song Hong Fang. Cold Genesys is developing viruses which are designed to selectively replicate in tumors (but not normal tissue) and to elicit an immune response against cancer cells. United Online Names EVP, General Counsel ---- Woodland Hills-based United Online said Friday that it has named Mark Harrington as the company's new Executive Vice President and General Counsel. Harrington was most recently Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Guidance Software, and also has served at Intel Corporation, Trillium Digital Systems, Munger, Tolles & Olson and Ticketmaster. United Online says Harrington has over 25 years of business experience. USC, 2U Launch New Online Nursing Degree ---- The University of Southern California and online degree program operator 2U said last week that they are planning to launch a new, online degree in nursing. The two said they plan to develop and online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) for aspiring family nurse practitioners. The two said the new program is expected to start in fall of 2016. The program will also include in-person clinical rotations. 2U already powers a number of online degree programs for USC. MaintenanceNet Acquisition By Cisco Completes ---- Carlsbad-based cloud software developer MaintenanceNet is now officially part of Cisco, Cisco said this week, after it completed its acquisition deal for the company. Cisco had announced its acquisition of MaintenanceNet on July 8th, saying it would pay $139M for the startup. MaintenanceNet develops cloud-based software being used by companies to better manage the renewal of recurring customer contracts. The company had been backed by Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. Cisco says MaintenanceNet becomes part of Cisco's Global Customer Success (GCS) organization. TrueCar's Painter To Step Down As CEO ---- Scott Painter, the CEO of Los Angeles-based auto purchasing service TrueCar, said Thursday that he will be stepping down as CEO of the company by the end of the year. Painter will remain as Chairman of the board, and will continue as CEO as the company searches for a new chief executive. Painter has been CEO of the company since he founded TrueCar in 2005. Painter has recently been battling issues with the auto industry and dealers, who have been unhappy with company's data sharing policies--as well as the company's focus on providing consumers with realistic, upfront pricing and price transparency. JenaValve Gets $26.5M for Aorta Repair Device ---- Irvine-based JenaValve Technology, which is developing transcatheter aortic valve repair (TAVR) systems for the treatment of aortic valve disease, said Friday morning that it has raised $26.5M in a Series C funding round. The funding was led by RMM (Rudi Marien) and Valiance, and also included Atlas Venture, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Gimv, Legend Capital, NeoMed Management and VI Partners.
