The funding is reportedly led by Madrona Venture Group. HelloTech taps into a distributed network of college students, who provide in-home, tech support--mostly to boomers and older adults. The company has previously raised funding from Accel Partners, Amplify.LA, CrossCut Ventures, and Upfront Ventures, all of whom are reportedly also participating in this funding. Insteon--which makes home automation and control products--said more than 25 different Insteon products will be available across Fry's locations in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Washington. Insteon is led by Joe Dada. Akana Launches Healthcare API Product ---- Los Angeles-based Akana, the developer of enterprise API management tools, said this morning that it has launched a new product into the healthcare space. Akana said its new, Akana Healthcare Solution is aimed at healthcare organizations, helping them with healthcare interoperability efforts. According to Akana, its new product supports the Health Level Seven International Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (HL7 FHIR) standard, which covers electronics access to health records. Pricing on the new product was not announced. Qualcomm Sells UK Spectrum To Vodafone, H3G ---- San Diego-based Qualcomm announced this morning that it has sold a segment of spectrum it owns in the UK, to Vodafone and H3G. According to Qualcomm, its Qualcomm UK Spectrum (QUKS) subsidiary has agreed to sell its UK L-Band sepectrum (1452 - 1492 Mhz) in two, separate transactions. Financial details of the spectrum sale were not announced. The spectrum is allocated for helping mobile network operators handle mobile data traffic. Qualcomm said it was advised by Akira Partners LLP in the sale. Evolve Media Snags Say Media Executive ---- Los Angeles-based Evolve Media, the online publishing and media firm behind CraveOnline and TotallyHer, said Tuesday that it has named Jennifer Catto as its new SVP of Integrated Media. Catto was most recently Vice President and Head of Branded Entertainment and Partnerships at Say Media, and also served at Conde Nast and Site59.com (acquired by Travelocity), along with Travelocity. Catto will be based in New York. Evolve said Catto will oversee marketing efforts for CraveOnline, TotallyHer and Martini Media. LA City Council Clears Uber, Lyft For LAX Pickup ---- The Los Angeles City Council has voted to let ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft go ahead and pick up passengers at Los Angeles International (LAX), despite an earlier delay.
