Financial details of the win were not disclosed, however, the two said that American's new fleet of Boeing 737 MAX will go into service with ViaSat's in-flight internet systems, starting in September of 2017. American Airlines had been looking to switch to ViaSat, from an existing deal and contract it has with Gogo, saying that ViaSat's higher speed Internet service "materially improves" its service. http://www.socaltech.com/american_airlines_switches_to_viasat/s-0065653.html KnuEdge, Backed By $100M, Launches Voice Recognition Software ---- San Diego-based KnuEdge, a startup which was founded by former NASA administrator Dan Goldin, said this morning that it has unveiled its voice recognition and authentication technology--which it has developed with $100M in funding. According to the company, it has developed "neural technology" which is aimed at altering how humans interact with machines, allowing computers, web and mobile apps, and devices to authenticate and understand the human voice. Netflix said today that it is filming a new, Netflix original series, based on the novel Sacred Games, by Indian author Vikram Chandra. Netflix said the series will be filmed in Hindi and English, and will be available to its members globally when filmed. The new series will be produced in partnership with Phantom Films. The series looks to be the first original content filmed by Netflix in India. ViaSat Wins Zetta Jet ---- Carlsbad-based satellite connectivity provider ViaSat has scored a win with private airline Zetta Jet, the two companies said this morning, with ViaSat providing in-flight Internet services on Zetta Jet's Bombardier aircraft. According to the companies, ViaSat will provide global, in-flight Internet services to customers, supporting everything from live video streaming to video conferencing and voice-over-IP calls. Financial details off the win were not disclosed. Zetta Jet is headquartered in Singapore, and offers up private jet service on the Pacific Rim; the company also has offices in Los Angeles. ViaSat operates its own satellite network, supporting Ku-band satellite Internet connectivity. Acuant Buys AssureTec ---- Los Angeles-based Acuant,/a>, a developer of identity management and identity verification technology, said this morning that it has acquired AssureTec Technologies, a provider of identity, document authentication, and data capture products. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The company said that AssureTec's CEO, Steve Maloney, becomes Executive Vice President for Business Development & Strategy at Acuant. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The companies said that Telerent is a provdier of hospital television, display, and signage systems integration services, with customers that represent more than 40 percent of U.S. hospitals. Telerent said that Digital Networks Group becomes part of its Avidex division. Telerent is a subsidiary of ITOCHU. Impinj, With Offices In OC, Files For IPO ---- Impinj, a developer of RFID and other wireless chips which has rseearch offices in Rancho Cordova and Newport Beach, has filed for an IPO, saying in a filing with the SEC that it is looking to raise up to $60M. According to Teledyne, Shipley, which is part of its Teledyne Microsave Solutions group, has been awarded a major supply contract from OneWeb Satellites, to support an effort to launch 900 small satellites. That satellite constellation is being aimed at providing broadband, Internet access across the globe.
