Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Toutiao said it will use the acquisition to help expand into the U.S. Toutiao said it will expand its footprint in the United States as a result of the deal, and will grow the Flipagram team. Flipagram was first launched in 2013 by Mohit, a longtime serial entrepreneur in Los Angeles. Flipagram was venture backed by Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Index Ventures. The company had been looking for a buyer since December. Flipagram's mobile apps let users take their own photos and set them in time to popular musical tracks. http://www.socaltech.com/flipagram_acquired_by_chinese_company_toutiao/s-0068992.html Vision Solutions Sells Double-Take Software To Carbonite ---- Irvine-based Vision Solutions, which develops data protection, high-availability, and other IT automation software, said Tuesday evening that it has sold its Double-Take Software division to Carbonite. Vision Solutions is owned by Santa Monica's Clearlake Capital. Financial details of the sale were not announced. Vision Solutions had acquired Double-Take in 2010, only a few short months before it was acquired by Clearlake Capital. http://www.socaltech.com/vision_solutions_sells_double_take_software_to_carbonite/s-0068993.html SpaceX Signs New Contract With Iridium, Sets Launch To ISS ---- Hawthorne-based SpaceX has signed another contract with satellite constellation operator Iridium Communications, for the launch of as many as five additional satellites for its satellite network. Separately, the next launch by SpaceX appears to be from Florida, of a NASA payload to the International Space Station. In the Iridium Communications announcement, Iridium said it will send as many as five satellites into space alongside a seaprately payload from NASA, which is expected in early 2018 from Vandenberg Air Force Base north of Santa Barbara. Over the weekend, SpaceX said its next launch will be of a supply ship to the International Space Station, at a rented launchpad from NASA. That mission will be the tenth resupply mission by SpaceX to the ISS since 2012. Centerfield Raises $156M, Acquired Qology Direct ---- Los Angeles-based digital advertising technology developer Centerfield announced late Tuesday that it has raised $156M in financing, and acquired performance marketing company Qology Direct. Financial details of the Qology buy were not announced. The funding came from H.I.G. Growth Partners, the dedicated growth capital investment affiliate of H.I.G. Capital and Falcon Investment Advisors. Cenerfield provides marketing technology in the area of real time bidding (RTB). According to Centerfield, the combined company will employ upwards of 2,000 staff members. The company says its customers include ADT, AT&T, COX, DIRECTV, Charter Spectrum, Verizon FIOS, Sprint, and many others. http://www.socaltech.com/centerfield_raises___6m_acquired_qology_direct/s-0068995.html CompuVision Merges With Sagewood Systems ---- Santa Barbara-based CompuVision, a managed IT services provider, and fellow IT services firm Sagewood Systems said late Tuesday that the two have merged. Financial details of the merger were not announced. Sagewood Systems focuses on the healthcare technology services area, and was founded in 1998. CompuVision is led by President and CEO John Hunt. Sagewood Systems was founded and led by CEO Bill Wood. Wood becomes Senior Vice President of Engineering, and will help lead CopuVision's healthcare division. Bridg Names Chief Product Officer ---- Los Angeles-based Bridg said Tuesday that it has named Mike Horowitz as the company's Chief Product Officer. Horowitz previously served at Ticketmaster / Live Nation, managed producta at Google, and also advised such startups as Applied Semantics, Fetch Technologies, and Abot Labs. Bridg said Horowitz will be responsible for defining and implementing Bridg's short-term and long-term product strategy, roadmap and vision. Bridg develops customer relationship management and marketing software specifically for restaurants and retail brands. Radish Raises $3M For Reading App ---- Los Angeles-based Radish which develops a service which provides short-form, serialized fiction via iOS and Android, has raised $3M in a seed funding round. The funding came from Greylock, Lowercase Capital, Softbank Next Media Innovation Fund, UTA, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI) and Sherpa Capital, and also includes angels Amy Tan, Sir Peter Bazalgette, Charlie Songhurst, Nicolas Berggruen, Matt Humphrey, Duncan Clark, Jeremy Yap, and others. The company's app lets users see installments of a book, and then make micropayments to read the next installment. The company said its top author is making $13,000 a month on the platform. The privately held firm did not disclose any financial figures, but said it saw 2.5X sales growth, 4X international sales, with about 40% of its revenue due to its "On Premise as a Service" service. That service puts storage on-site with its customers, but allows those customers to pay on a subscription basis only for storage used. Zadara is led by storage veteran Nelson Nahum. Snap Selects NYSE For IPO, Filing As Early As This Week, Says Reports ---- The highly anticipated IPO filing for Venice, California-based Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat is now expected as early as this week, as reports say the company has selected the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) for its listing.
